Matt Average Photo Essay, ‘I.C.E. Out of L.A., June 8th, 2025’: When I arrived the crowd seemed under a thousand, but as we headed down past City Hall the numbers grew. At one point, when the police were trying to coral us, I looked up the street and saw even more people turning the corner heading our way. It was a beautiful and encouraging sight...

Away from the police line, it felt like a large block party. People were hanging out, some handing out free water, some eating, some dancing. One gentleman pulled his car up, popped the trunk, and started blasting old L.A. punk like Los Illegals, and The Brat.

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen them over their twenty-six years as a band. But I can tell you that every time I see them, they raise the bar of excellence a little higher. They truly are the best at what they do.
