Las Vegas has just wrapped up another Consumer Electronics Show, also known as CES. This year, artificial intelligence wasn’t just present at CES 2026; from toothbrushes to robot vacuums, manufacturers have AI in a lot of things! The exhibitions felt reminiscent of about five years ago, when every gadget was smart and required an app.

CES 2026 took place from January 6–9, 2026, in Nevada, featuring major tech announcements, product showcases, and industry networking at the Las Vegas Convention Center and other venues. There were keynotes and exhibits from companies like Nvidia, Samsung, and LG happening throughout these dates. AI, robotics, digital health, and automotive tech dominated the show, with press conferences from leading tech giants highlighting their latest innovations.

Uncle Nearest co-founders Fawn and Keith Weaver have filed a lawsuit against former Chief Financial Officer Mike Senzaki, alleging a pattern of financial misconduct tied to the company’s lending and internal operations.

The complaint accuses Senzaki of fraud, forgery, breach of fiduciary duty, and other claims, as the founders argue they were misled about key financial decisions made during his tenure.

In the filing, the Weavers allege Senzaki presented inflated or misleading financial information connected to a major loan process - claims they say contributed to serious financial fallout for the company. Uncle Nearest has not only disputed the narrative around how the loan was secured, but has also positioned its case against Senzaki as central to what it says went wrong behind the scenes.

Actress Zoe Saldaña has reached a historic milestone within Hollywood.

According to USA Today, the Afro-Dominican beauty has officially surpassed Samuel L. Jackson and is now the second-highest-grossing actor in film history. Saldaña’s film credits now total an estimated $15 billion in global box office revenue. These were pushed by the ongoing success of the new movie, Avatar: Fire and Ash.

Saldaña is now second on the all-time list of grossing actors, behind Scarlett Johansson, whose films total just over $15.4 billion.

Africa’s unicorn startup, Flutterwave, has acquired Nigerian open banking startup Mono in an all-stock deal valued between $25 million and $40 million.

The acquisition unites two of Africa’s top fintech infrastructure companies. Flutterwave operates one of the continent’s largest payments networks. Mono, often dubbed the “Plaid for Africa,” has developed APIs enabling businesses to access bank data, initiate payments, and verify customers.

Leading financial technology platform, Esusu, has raised $50 million in its Series C financing, bringing its total valuation to $1.2 billion.

Westbound Equity Partners led the financing with participation from Blue Meridian Partners, the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, and strategic family offices.

Ten promising tech-enabled startups have completed the latest Geekz Ventures GROWTH pre-accelerator program.

The startups, from a range of industries — including media, SaaS, fintech, and entertainment — were selected from a highly competitive pool of applicants across the United States. They reflect rising demand for culturally grounded innovation and scalable solutions that serve diverse populations and markets.

This second GROWTH cohort continues Geekz Ventures’ mission to back overlooked and underestimated founders building early-stage tech ventures.
