I had the chance to interview an incredible A-list woman writer for the very first episode of my new podcast, Slated: Women Filmmakers.
At one point I asked her how she maintains such consistent excellence and output in her work. Her answer was so simple it shamed me.
She said, “I prioritize writing.”
She writes in her car while her kids are at softball practice. She writes in the evenings while they do homework. She writes because she has scheduled time to write, not because the world has magically given her the perfect moment.
And she is not on the great distraction of social media.
Her clarity reminded me that excellence is not about perfect conditions. It is about the habits we choose and the focus we protect.
It feels like the right way to introduce the podcast too. Slated is about conversations with women who build their careers through persistence, discipline, and vision, often in the margins of their very real lives.
Now I am turning off my phone and I’m going to write.
