Speaking of the Groove Consultants here is their bio:
Years active: 2012 - Present
The Groove Consultants really has its origins in 2008, when Steven Olikara, Michael Chang and Brandon met in the class, Black Music Ensemble, taught by the prolific bassist and professor at UW-Madison, Richard Davis. Richard has been on some of the most famous albums of all time, including Van Morrison’s Astral Weeks, Rashan Roland Kirk’s Rip, Rig and Panic, Pharoah Sanders’ Karma, Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run and Greetings From Ashbury Park, N.J., Eric Dolphy’s Out to Lunch, Paul Simon’s There Goes Rhymin’ Simon, Charles Mingus’ Let My Children Hear Music and Andrew Hill’s Point of Departure. Michael and Steven were best friends from their high school days in Brookfield. They were in a funk band called Bump City.
During their days at UW-Madison, Steven, Michael and Brandon’s paths would cross several more times. Brandon recalls seeing Steven opening for a speech Barack Obama was doing on campus and a music swap he did with Michael at Audre Lorde Co-op. Eventually, Steven and Brandon even took a class together on Southeast Asian Development taught by the renowned Australian economist, Ian Coxhead.
After graduating from college, Michael got his Masters from the University of New Mexico and eventually began a Ph.D. program in Italy. Steven moved to Washington, D.C. where he founded the non profit organization Millennial Action Project, worked on the organization Akon Lighting Africa, and was named to Forbes 30 under 30 list. After running for federal Senate in Wisconsin in 2022 (Brandon actually worked on the campaign), Steven moved to California, started working for the Schwarzenegger Institute, began a role as guest host for the Hill's TV show "Rising" and worked as a political commentator on TMJ4.
Eventually, starting in 2012, the three began to jam on covers whenever Steven and Michael were in town.
