Poll finds 49% of renters in Broward support proposed state referendum to reduce property taxes on owner-occupied homes — even though renters wouldn’t see benefits & rents could go up if landlords pass on the cost of taxes shifted to them.
Overall, majority of voters in Broward support proposed state constitutional amendment.
Passage requires 60% statewide.
Warnings about funding cuts for local services that could result if it passes reduce support, pollsters reported.

Roy Rogers, a Renaissance man, has died.
Mr. Rogers was central figure in planning the city of Weston. He was an advocate for good government. And he was a champion of the environment (who loved butterflies).
He died on Sept. 26, eight days after his 90th birthday.

Florida Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Angie Nixon challenged over her view that Israel has committed genocide in war with Hamas.
Town hall was in southwest Palm Beach County, where many Jewish voters have been voting Democratic for decades and Republicans have more recently made gains.

Broward state Rep. Hillary Cassel stunned colleagues and outraged previous supporters when she quit the Democratic Party less than eight weeks after the 2024 election.
Now, running for reelection as a Republican, she’s still explaining the party switch.
Not everyone buys her justificiation.
That’s OK, Cassel said. If she loses, “I am very much at peace with that.”
