Another cold front will sweep through the Cape Fear Sunday night and into Monday, and as a result we could see a few showers. This front will provide us with cooler and drier weather mid week. Temperatures will get into the 90s by the mid/end of the week before a cold front on Friday morning provides some relief from the heat. In even better news, Tropical Storm Fiona is forecast to stay well east out to sea and not become a threat to the Carolinas, besides increased rip current risks this upcoming week.

Happy Labor Day Weekend! Mostly cloudy today with the chance for a stray shower or two as we go into the afternoon. For the rest of the weekend, not going to see much change. Mostly cloudy skies with the chance for a shower or storm expected through Monday. Temperatures will be seasonable in the upper 80s. If you are headed to the beach for the holiday, moderate rip current risks are in place for both our east and south beaches.

We are tracking the tropics with a disturbance off the west coast of Africa that is producing disorganized showers and storms and gradually developing day by day. A tropical depression could form with this system by the middle/later part of the week. We do have a disturbance in the tropics that has a low chance for development right now, but certainly something we are keeping an eye on. As we go into the overnight we will see showers and storms ramp up. Showers and storms are likely in the afternoon for your Independence Day, but as we go into the evening that chance will decrease just in time for fireworks. Tropical Storm Colin is no longer a threat to the Cape Fear.
EVENING TROPICAL UPDATE: Tropical Storm Colin continues to track northeast at 8 mph, with sustained winds of 35 mph, into the Cape Fear which will leave us with continued showers on and off throughout the evening. Winds are likely to pick up later tonight, but little change in strength is is expected over the next day or two. This system will move just along the coast of North Carolina through Sunday morning and then make its way out into the Atlantic and away from land by Sunday night. Dissipation of the storm is expected by Monday. For the most part, this system is more of a inconvenience to outdoor holiday plans than anything, and we will not see any severe threats or outcomes of it.
AFTERNOON TROPICAL UPDATE: Tropical Storm Colin will continue to bring moderate to heavy rainfall into the Cape Fear this afternoon into Sunday morning along with gusty winds. We could see rainfall amounts up to half an inch in some areas. This system will be out of our way by tomorrow afternoon.
