Solent Wireless has been formed to promote local DAB digital radio services broadcast to the City of Portsmouth and surrounding area.

Solent Wireless transmits local DAB digital radio stations to the Portsmouth area as part of an Ofcom trial to test small scale DAB broadcasts.

An update! Tomorrow (Wednesday 4th June) is when we should transition from our trial licence to our full-time licence.

Please accept our apologies but our DAB transmitter at Fort Widley is currently off-air. We believe based on the information available to us that there is a potentially a power supply problem. We are sending an engineer to site and hope to provide an update later this afternoon. Our Leigh Park DAB transmitter is still broadcasting however.

Nearly 9 years ago the Trial Portsmouth DAB multiplex launched (our anniversary is a few weeks away), and in that time I don't think any of us could have foreseen that a 9 month trial would turn in to a 9 year trial! Yesterday, Ofcom announced that they have awarded us at Angel Radio the full time DAB multiplex licence for Portsmouth and naturally we are delighted with the news.

For the time being our trial licence continues, and we hope to have more news in the near future about the transition to our full licence. But for the time being, we are happy at being able to formally secure a long term future for the Portsmouth DAB multiplex. Thank you so much for supporting us on this journey.

Thank you also to our stations that have backed us. In particular to Express FM, THE FLASH ON AIR and Atmosphere.Radio who have been with us since day one. Our current services from Swinging Radio 60s, 80s Rhythm, Easy Radio, Fun Kids Radio, Gaydio, Nation Radio UK 70s/80s/90s, Outreach Radio, Outreach Dance, Passion Radio, Pompey Sound, Radio Caroline, Slack City, Starpoint Radio, Tomorrowland One World Radio, Victory Online and Voice FM along with the stations that have come and gone over the years.
