Four (4) months pregnant Zimbabwean Young Woman Shalom Nzou Stranded in South Africa. Reaches Out to Hope for Zimbabwe Children for Help to Return Home.

Plans are underway to assist a vulnerable Zimbabwean teenager stranded in South Africa to return home, courtesy of philanthropist Maam Violet Makunike.
Today, 17-year-old Shalom Nzou reached out to Maam Violet Makunike seeking urgent assistance to return to Zimbabwe after finding herself in a desperate and difficult situation.
In her message, Shalom explained that she is a Zimbabwean national originally from Harare who is currently living in Duduza, South Africa. She said both her parents have passed away and she has no immediate family support.
Shalom reported that she lost all her identification documents while in South Africa, including her passport and birth certificate, making it difficult for her to access assistance or arrange travel back to Zimbabwe.
She described her situation as extremely challenging, saying she has no stable accommodation, no source of income, and often struggles to find food. Shalom also revealed that she is four months pregnant.
According to her account, she travelled to South Africa in March this year after being taken there by relatives. However, she alleges that her stay became difficult after she resisted inappropriate advances from a family member. She says she was subsequently chased away and has since been moving between different households where she feels unsafe and unwanted.
Shalom said she sought assistance from social welfare services but was informed that documentation would be required before more comprehensive help could be provided. She added that she has no contact details for relatives in Zimbabwe because her phone and contacts were lost.
The young woman described the emotional toll of her circumstances, saying she cries almost every day and at times has felt hopeless about the future. However, she says she continues to hold on because of the unborn child she is carrying.
She also alleged that in the household where she is currently staying, she is under pressure to engage in relationships with men and fears for her safety and wellbeing.
Seeking a way home, Shalom appealed to Maam Violet Makunike and Hope for Zimbabwe Children to help her return to Zimbabwe as soon as possible. She indicated that transport costs, border-related expenses, and the absence of identity documents are major obstacles preventing her from travelling.
Hope for Zimbabwe Children is now assessing her situation and exploring ways to assist her return home safely. The organisation is also looking into the appropriate procedures for obtaining emergency travel documentation and ensuring that she receives the support and protection she requires as a vulnerable young woman and expectant mother.
Further updates will be provided as arrangements progress.
