Domestic violence involves people in personal relationships. As a result prosecution of these crimes can be complicated, given the nature of the relationship. Some survivors recant their statement in an effort to get the charges dropped.

If you are a survivor of domestic violence, and are feeling pressured into recanting your statements, Contact local support groups or the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-SAFE). Agencies like these exist to keep domestic violence survivors safe. You may also seek legal advice to help you decide what to do.

There are a myriad of reasons why people stay in abusive relationships. For Kimber, marriage vows were sacred. If you say them, promise them... you mean them and you stick to them no matter what.

And once Kimber was sticking to them, her sense of self was eroded to the point where she didn't know who she was anymore. Once that happens, it becomes so difficult to leave because you don't know what is up-down-left-right anymore.

NEW EPISODE ALERT!

In this episode of Narcissist Apocalypse, Kimber shares her story of marrying an emotionally & physically abusive narcissist. When Kimber met her husband, they were both young and looking to make something of themselves. However, soon after they married, red flags began popping up everywhere. Kimber took her vows seriously and believed the lies of her husband when he said his rages and addictions would never happen again. But those were only words, and something worse was lurking beneath as Kimber had to endure years and years of emotional and physical abuse until she was finally able to break free.

It's a story of belittling, rage, infidelity, intimidation, smashing property, gambling, isolation, control , guilt, double standards, verbal abuse, not being good enough, blame, financial abuse, gaslighting, Jekyl &Hyde, walking on eggshells, su***de attempts, physical abuse, stalking, divorce, protection orders, physical symptoms, and boundaries.

This quote is about the lurking Mr. Hyde that's been beneath the surface the whole time. It just takes some external validation of power - at things like work - to make them feel more invincible and that they can just do anything they like..... especially if they are bringing in the most money in the family.

This is a lyric from a song by The Magnetic Fields called The Night You Can't Remember. I thought this was a very fitting lyric for so many abuse survivors and what they go through with their abusers.

Whether it be physical or emotional abuse, many times the abuser will not remember things the same way you did or they will flat out say that the abuse didn't happen. But for many abuse survivors, these moments are etched in your brains forever.

The abuser might try to make you believe your memory is faulty or they may even try to say that you're the abuser, but the abuse happened. You are not crazy and you are not alone.

NEW EPISODE ALERT!

In this episode of Narcissist Apocalypse, Valeria shares her story of marrying a man who wanted to be a team, only to discover that the team never existed. While Valeria was attending school or working, she did everything, taking care of their three kids and the home. And when Valeria asked for help? She was criticized for having needs and feelings. However, things started to change when Valeria began to thrive in her career, finally knocking her husband off his pedestal and seeing him for who he truly was - a selfish critical narcissist.

This quote is about Valeria's ex constantly putting her down when it came to her work. He never saw her as an equal. Deep down he couldn't handle if Valeria became accomplished in academia. It would be a blow to his own ego and accomplishments. And when it did happen, all of a sudden he didn't want to be fully engaged in academia anymore. How predictable!

The Story of Narcissist Apocalypse

Hi! I’m Brandon aka Chad and I’m here to tell you that Narcissist Apocalypse was/is the most fulfilling accident a person could have ever asked for.

Interviewing survivors of narcissistic abuse was never my intention. In fact, I started this podcast because I was writing an odd humor book about narcissism. The podcast was meant to be an extension of the book and Chad was its star. Thus, you hear me refer to myself as Chad the Impaler when you listen to the earlier episodes.

After my first interview episode, where I interviewed my old pal Melissa, a survivor reached out to let me know how Melissa’s story resonated with them, and with some encouragement from some of my friends, the podcast morphed into me interviewing narcissist abuse survivors.

At first, I posted on Reddit.com looking for abuse survivors that wanted to be on the show, and thankfully one person got back named Elliott. It was my first interview with a stranger and had no idea what I was doing, but I enjoyed the conversation, and even though Elliott’s story was different than mine, I resonated with it. Soon after I released this episode, I got another survivor email telling me how listening to Elliott made them feel less alone in the world and this person urged me to keep going with the podcast.
