DEJA VU
By Elissa Gabrielle

When the heart beats for a love that time could never erase...

Deja Mitchell is the epitome of purpose and power—Manhattan’s queen of communications and the visionary force behind Fire & Soul Communications, an agency that turns trends into revolutions. Draped in purple and ambition, she strides through life as bold as the jazz that feeds her soul. But for all her brilliance, there’s one rhythm she can’t seem to master—the echo of a love that once consumed her.

DeVante Michaels is a man of grit and grace, whose rise in the tech world is as commanding as his presence. Yet beneath the tailored suits and skyscraper dreams lies a man still haunted by the one mistake that has haunted him for decades—letting Deja slip away. When fate brings them back together at a gala glittering with Manhattan’s elite, it ignites more than just memories. It sparks a flame neither of them ever truly extinguished.

Their affair started back in college, where dreams were big, nights were long, and love was jazz—wild, untamed, and full of soul. Deja and DeVante were two kindred spirits navigating a world too small for their ambition, their passion an uncontainable force that burned hot but ended too soon. Now, decades later, they stand on opposite sides of the success they once chased, thrust into a storm of unspoken truths, lingering regrets, and a magnetic pull that defies reason.

Can they overcome the shadows of their past to embrace the promise of what could be? Or will the scars of yesterday keep them from a future written in destiny?

Deja Vu is a tale that hums with the rhythm of jazz, the power of reinvention, and the courage to rewrite your life’s melody. Set against the backdrop of jazz-infused nights, power struggles, and raw emotion, Deja Vu is a sweeping tale of love rediscovered, resilience redefined, and the courage it takes to claim the life—and love—you deserve. It’s about finding the harmony between past and present and daring to believe that second chances aren’t just for dreamers—they’re for those bold enough to take them.

It is with deep humility and overflowing joy that I share this moment: I have been named an honoree at the 21st Annual African American Literary Awards Show.

This honor is not mine alone. It is a shared celebration of every dreamer, every storyteller, every believer who dared to pour their soul onto the page.

If you missed the news, now is the time to lean in.

This recognition is not just about me. It is about us.

It is about Peace in the Storm Publishing, a vision born twenty years ago that has blossomed into a home for the bold, the brilliant, and the beautifully broken.

What began as a whisper of faith has grown into a roar of purpose.

For two decades, we have lifted voices that once lived in shadows. We have told stories that cut deep and heal wide. We have turned pain into poetry and testimonies into triumphs.

To every author who trusted me with their truth…
To every reader who found themselves in our pages…
To every soul who believed in the mission…
this moment belongs to you, too.

Join me on October 4th as we celebrate the boundless power of Black literature and the legacy we continue to write together.

With grace, grit, and gratitude,
Elissa Gabrielle

Author Sheribim Joy’s book powerfully exposes the chaos in today’s churches, mainly caused by controlling committees and church boards. It was an easy read, yet deeply emotional—filled with anger, disappointment, and raw truth. There has been warning about having a church with a committee board. The book talks about how a pastor, called by God, faced betrayal, even from her family, for standing on His word. But her father always had her back. Despite the opposition, she remained faithful. This book reminds us that going against God’s chosen leaders never ends well—those who oppose His work will fall. In this book it shows the importance of saving souls, not pleasing the people with activities. This book signifies that the churches needs to be cleaned up. After The Benediction 2 is a must-read for anyone in ministry who thinks leading is easy.

“Sherabim Joy didn’t just write a sequel—she delivered a reckoning. After the Benediction 2: The Coming Storm is a thunderous, truth-telling, spirit-filled masterpiece. With prophetic power and poetic precision, she peels back the layers of obedience, betrayal, and the cost of the call. Every page is purposeful. Every chapter is a sacred summons to the wounded, the weary, and the chosen. This isn’t just a novel—it’s an altar in motion. Sherabim Joy has given us something eternal, timely, and transformative. This story will stir the sanctified and confront the comfortable—and that is exactly what we need.”

Chapter 10: Letting Go of the Old You
You Served Your Purpose. Now Let You Rest.

“The version of you who survived the storm deserves rest, not resurrection.” —Dr. Elissa

What would it look like to stop performing for the past and start living from your healing?

There comes a time in your journey when healing isn't about fixing what broke, it's about releasing who you had to become just to survive it. The masks you wore. The roles you played. The pieces you buried to protect your spirit.

You were strong. You were brilliant. You were everything they needed you to be.

But Beloved, this version of you; the one who got you through the fire, who held your breath while others took theirs for granted, who swallowed your voice to keep the peace, who kept smiling when you wanted to scream; they are tired.

They served their purpose. And now, they are asking for release.

Survival Isn't the Same as Wholeness
There’s a difference between surviving and living.

Survival is learning how to breathe underwater. It’s the grit, the grind, the grind of waking up when your spirit wants to sleep forever. It’s mastering the art of the silent breakdown. It’s building strength from scarcity, from fear, from fire.

But living? Living is trusting the surface again. It’s letting your lungs fill with joy instead of just endurance. It’s learning to dance with uncertainty instead of bracing for pain.

You don’t have to be in survival mode anymore. And if no one else has told you: You’re safe now.

You don’t have to flinch anymore. You don’t have to explain why you’re exhausted. You don’t have to perform resilience when what you need is restoration.

Let that strong version of you lay her head down. Let him unclench his fists. Let them breathe. Let them sleep.

Because the new you? The one who is rising? They don’t need armor. They need air.

“Black Amethyst” by Toni Carter: A Luminous, Lyrical Descent into Love, Loss, and Longing

New York, NY — Peace in the Storm Publishing, 2025 — In honor of its 20th Anniversary Celebration, Peace in the Storm Publishing proudly presents a haunting and exquisite new release from award-winning author Toni Carter—Black Amethyst, a poetic tale of love, vengeance, and the exquisite ruin of falling too hard, too fast, and too deeply.

"Toni Carter doesn’t just write stories—she writes soul imprints. With Black Amethyst, she proves once again that literature can be both a mirror and a balm. Her words cut deep, but they also heal. As we celebrate 20 years of Peace in the Storm Publishing, it is voices like Toni’s—unapologetic, evocative, and timeless—that remind us why we fell in love with storytelling in the first place."
— Elissa Gabrielle, Publisher, Peace in the Storm Publishing

In Black Amethyst, Carter weaves a tale that defies genre and expectation. At its heart is Lady Ross, a woman who has grown intimate with solitude and distrustful of love—until she crosses paths with Sauder Atlas, an enigmatic artist whose world is shrouded in shadows and sculpted in secrecy. He is the kind of man who can turn pain into beauty—but Lady may become his most dangerously beautiful creation yet.

What begins as a tentative pull becomes a powerful seduction, drawing Lady and Sauder into a world where passion is perilous and love is never without consequence. As their pasts collide and secrets unravel, Black Amethyst becomes a love story painted with smoke and fire, where intimacy is both salvation and ruin.

“What would be the most romantic way to ruin yourself?”

Toni Carter asks the kind of questions that linger long after the final page. Her prose is sensual and sharp, daring and delicate. With Black Amethyst, she offers readers a novel that is as rich and multifaceted as its title—a rare jewel cut from grief, devotion, and reckless abandon.

From Monroe, Louisiana to literary acclaim, Toni Carter has spent years crafting stories that speak to the aching truth of human connection. Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis shortly after college, Carter refused to let the dimming of her vision blur her dreams. Instead, she wrote through it—with fearless vulnerability and relentless faith. Her voice—bold, unflinching, tender—is a beacon for readers who have ever dared to love despite the cost.

"Writing about love, life, failure, deception, and intimacy are all cathartic for me. I've spent a lot of years holding in my emotions for reasons I'm too scared to address at the present. So, for the time being, I express them in 'not so' fictitious characters...in the hopes that one day, the person I'm writing about or writing to will read them. It's like throwing glitter in the air; you don't know where it will land, but you know that it will touch some of everything and stick when it does." — Toni Carter

After capturing the hearts of readers with Slowly, but Surely, Blood, Lust & Love (winner of Best Fiction at the 2018 African American Literary Awards), and The Pleasure of the Curve, Carter returns with what is undeniably her most daring and emotionally charged work yet.

Black Amethyst is now available on Kindle.

Indulge in a love story where desire is dangerous, vulnerability is radical, and ruin has never looked so beautiful.
