4000 Records Independent artist-led label with a strong focus on collaborating with south east QLD creatives. Undefined by genre. Unbound by sound.

4000 Records began in the semi-industrial outskirts of Meanjin, in a small room perched in a battered high-set Queenslander overlooking a scrap metal yard and a brewery. One of its occupants, John Russell, has been an active supporter and enthusiast of the local scene since his days of all-ages shows at The Pineapple Club, running street teams and making mix tapes in a brave new world of CDs. r spending much time as an advocate of the south east qld music community through organising shows, event series and tours, running labels and managing bands under various guises, 4000 Records was created to serve the artists of the local community. With an aim to foster creativity and provide a space for innovation and expression, the 4000 family is an inclusive and supportive unit. We’re honoured and humbled to work with some of our favourite musicians in an abundantly thriving scene whilst striving to be a conduit between those like-minded, independent artists and the teeming earholes of the masses and tastemakers alike.

Lots of gratitude to Joyzine for such thoughtful consideration in their review of ff8282’s new album ‘a thin membrane between her hands’!

Very excited to launch this one at The Junk Bar on Thursday for the inaugural slow music club 01!!

April Emily, recording under the name ff8282, has released their new album 'a thin membrane between her hands', a wonderful soundscape that swims in ambient waters and soothes as much as it treats the brain to a gentle sonic bath.

April has prodigiously been releasing music for the last couple of years and I have a great love of their ability to evoke insanely beautiful textural narratives without the utterance of a single word.

‘Only Children’ features many collaborative touches from James Lees (Ghostwoods / Silver Sircus / Isis the band) and a luminous modular synth duet with Spirit Lights.

The album launches at our brand new event series next week, where you can get yours hands on an incredibly limited edition cassette (only 7 left).

I appreciate your patience while we let community radio and record stores have first bash at the sonic treats inside, but now it is yours to enjoy!!

‘Only Children’ is the sophomore effort from Meanjin solo artist Anthony Christopher (also of Soaphead) with many a delicate touch from James Lees on piano, drums, and “atmos” as well as a stunning feature from Spirit Lights on ‘Begin Again’.

The album is now available on Bandcamp - coming to (most) streaming 29.10 - head to our bio link.

Thanks to John from local emporium 4000 Records for bringing in copies of the amazeballs new compilation ‘Gazed and Bemused: Hazy Sounds From The Meanjin Underground’ which is chock full of local acts loosely fitting under the shoegaze umbrella! We’re talking exclusive tracks from the likes of Relay Tapes, Ultra Material, Deafcult, The Double Happiness, Ghost Mutt and Ancient Channels (plus many more), and not only does it come on limited edition pink or blue vinyl with gorgeous artwork courtesy No.7 Print House Brisbane but for the next week or so you can only get copies in a selected handful of local record stores! I bandy around the phrase ‘peak Brisbane’ quite a bit, but PEAK BRISBANE!
