The Airport of the Year category acknowledges the Middle Eastern airport that has experienced a breakthrough period of success over the past 12 months, with evidence of strong performance for passenger and cargo operations, relationship building with airlines and other partners, facility enhancements and market innovation.

Commenting on the award Anita Mehra, Vice President of Communications & Business Development at Dubai Airports said, We are honoured to have been chosen as the Airport of the Year by prominent members of the aviation and aerospace community. The win is the outcome of all the creativity and hard work the teams at Dubai Airports have put into enhancing service quality at DXB over the past twelve months. It is also a testament to their collaboration with our strategic partners, including more than 100 airlines that connect us to some 260 destinations around the world, as well as the 150 world class food and beverage and retail outlets at the airport.

As part of its strategy to deliver a significantly enhanced customer experience, Dubai Airports has invested US$ 1.2 billion (AED 4.3 billion) in new and upgraded facilities for the over 100 international airlines that operate from DXB’s Terminals 1 and 2. During the past 12 months, Dubai Airports introduced innovative design concepts to create welcoming new spaces and created new services and products for passengers. The airport operator also launched a new improved website and a smartphone app last year and stepped up its social media presence across channels to engage and inform passengers.

Organised by magazine publishers ITP Business, the ABAs included 14 categories in all, covering airline, airport and cargo sectors across the region, along with supporting niches. The Aviation Business Awards recognise and reward those individuals and companies that have made a significant contribution to the development of the regions aviation industry.
