Toxic is a very poor film that lacks basic flow in its storyline and tests your patience throughout its duration. The film has its moments, but they are very few, as it focuses more on stylised montages of non stop violence.
The storyline of the film is set in the gangster world of Goa, and it does have potential, but the film never really tries to explore it. The first half is all about back-to-back scenes of loud, screaming dialogues in a rhyming tone, slow-mo entries, killing every person you see on the screen and steamy scenes on repeat. The second half completely loses it and starts getting frustrating. The climax twist is good on paper, but by the time it gets revealed, I was fully exhausted.
The screenplay of the film is poor as well. It lacks the thread that binds the story together, there is no character arc developed, no emotional depth, and the background stories are only explored on the surface level. The chemistry between Yash and Kiara is developed well, while the other actresses are mostly there to serve a purpose and nothing more.
Yash has done a pretty good job as Raya. He looks stylish and carries his aura well, though I am not a big fan of his loud dialogue delivery. Yash as Ticket, however, is irritating and kinda unbearable. Kiara Advani has got some meat in the story and she has done well. Nayanthara gets some slow-mo montages with Yash, followed by a motherly character, and she is fine in it. Rukmini literally comes out of nowhere and has hardly anything to show. Huma Qureshi, I don't even know what she was doing there. Tara Sutaria is fine as well, nothing special.
The dialogues are cringe, overly rhymatic and largely unimpressive. The cinematography is something that genuinely stands out, with the grandeur of the film clearly visible in the frames. The editing, however, is very poor, as there are moments where the film feels unnecessarily slow, while at other times it moves too fast to let anything properly develop. The action sequences are good at times, but the excessive use of slow-mo gets tiring, while some sequences move so fast that it becomes difficult to even grasp what is happening.
