50 Houses Damaged in Reasi Land Sinking, Villagers Evacuated to Safety
Reasi, Sept 5: At least 50 houses were damaged after land sinking hit two mountainous hamlets in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, prompting authorities to launch immediate evacuation operations.
Officials said around 35 houses were damaged in village Bagga Jameslan, where all affected families were swiftly evacuated and relocated to three designated relief camps set up at Government High School, Middle School, and Panchayat Ghar.
In nearby village Sarh, 15 houses suffered extensive damage. Families were shifted to the relief camp established at Panchayat Ghar, ensuring their safety.
The evacuation and rehabilitation drive is being closely monitored under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Nidhi Malik. On the ground, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Mahore) Shafqat Majeed Bhat led teams from multiple departments to oversee safe evacuation and immediate relief measures.
Authorities said all relief camps have been equipped with ration, blankets, mattresses, tents, drinking water, and uninterrupted power supply to ensure the well-being of the displaced families.
Officials assured that the administration is working round-the-clock with full commitment, prioritising safety, rehabilitation, and welfare of the affected population amid ongoing rainfall and sinking incidents in the region.
