Whether you set the front first or teach the dog to anchor their rear feet and step forward with the front, it is critical that the front legs come straight down under the dog's chest. Stacking the legs too far back or the dog stepping too far forward can cause the dog to "post" which ruins the whole outline of the dog.

When she was just 8 weeks old, Caitlyn Mellor attended her first dog show. At 2, she stepped into the competition ring to show dogs alongside her mom. Then one day she told her mom, "I don't want you in the ring."

That's how the 3-year-old became one of the youngest dog handlers to compete on a national stage.

For all my Alaskan Klee Kai peeps!

We are happy to announce that the Alaskan Klee Kai Club of America has partnered with Embark Vet!

Here are some examples of what this means for the club and breed:
Embark offers our members preferred pricing on Embark DNA tests. This is a great way to stock up and save for Alaskan Klee Kai breeders.

Embark offers event support for partners like donations for fundraising, physical attendance at events, and remote participation via educational lectures.

Access to research!
Invitations to participate in sample recruitment to support the development of new genetic tests for genetic health conditions, traits, and other research.

We are excited to partner with Embark and explore all the opportunities this partnership will provide for our club and breed.

What you wear in the ring isn’t just about style—it’s strategy. Choosing clothing that’s too close in color to your dog’s coat can obscure their outline, making it harder for the judge to assess movement and structure.

Dress to compliment your dog—and yourself!
Go for colors that contrast just enough to make your pup pop. (Pro tip: Some savvy handlers even match their outfits to the ribbon colors… nothing wrong with a little subliminal persuasion. 😉)

Show up. Stand out. Win smart.
