PSCI NSTP students joined over 600 volunteers in celebrating World Rotaract Week 2026 by planting 800 mangrove seedlings at Sarif Mucsin Eco-Tourism Park, Lower Baluan, General Santos City, on March 7, 2026. Guided by park staff, the students learned practical mangrove propagation techniques while practicing teamwork, leadership, and environmental stewardship. The activity highlighted the vital role of youth in coastal conservation, showcasing how hands-on learning and civic engagement can make a meaningful impact on protecting marine ecosystems and fostering community responsibility.

𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 🌱

In celebration of 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 2026, we are coming together to take action under Rotary’s Area of Focus: 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭.

The Philippines has already lost more than half of its original mangrove forests due to coastal development and aquaculture expansion, according to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Yet studies from the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute show that mangroves significantly reduce wave energy during storms — protecting coastal communities from storm surges and erosion.

The Philippines is also ranked among the most climate-vulnerable countries in the world, based on the Global Climate Risk Index — making coastal protection more urgent than ever.

This March 7, 2026, let’s plant not just mangroves — but protection, resilience, and hope for future generations.
