Back when Imagination was everything

As kids, the Atari box art was magical. Those painted covers pulled us in with epic promises, and imagination filled in the rest. Often the art was better than the game itself, but that didn’t matter.
Atari was where imagination lived. The covers were windows, the cartridges were doors and what began as pixels became timeless memories.

What did you use?

When I was a kid, I spent countless hours on the arcade classic Track & Field (1983). After your fingers felt like they were about to fall off, it was time to bring out the big tools!! Popsicle sticks, rulers, pencils, even combs. All fair game for chasing those high scores. The only bummer? Some cabinets had button guards… but if they didn’t, it was open season!
Did you play Track & Field back in the day?

Genesis does what Nintendon’t

On August 14, 1989, the Sega Genesis burst onto the North American gaming scene, ushering in a bold new era of 16-bit power. For kids of the time, it wasn’t just a console, it was a portal to blazing-fast Sonic loops, rich arcade ports, and worlds that felt bigger than our living rooms. The sleek black design, the “Genesis does what Nintendon’t” ads, every bit of it felt cooler, faster, and ready to change gaming forever.

Remember Adventure?

Before open-world games and cinematic cutscenes, there was Adventure on the Atari. One square pixel was the hero, dragons looked like ducks, and castles sparked our imagination. We didn’t need HD, just a joystick, a flickering screen, and a wild sense of wonder. This was the game that made us brave knights in living rooms across the world..
If you remember getting lost in those pixelated mazes, you were truly there for the golden age.

Remember Moon Patrol from 82?

Back when the arcade was our battleground and a joystick was all we needed to conquer craters, mines, and flying saucers. Moon Patrol wasn’t just a game, it was a rite of passage. Side-scrolling through pixelated terrain with no save points, no second chances just pure skill and adrenaline.
If you remember blasting your way to Checkpoint Z, you’re one of the real ones.
Who else remembers that buggy ride to glory?
