Paul Magnette, leader of Belgium's Parti Socialiste, told the Belgian federal parliament that Belgium should send "not a single soldier, not a single weapon" to support the war in Iran. He called the strikes a violation of international law and praised Spain's Pedro Sanchez for refusing to let the U.S. use Spanish military bases — a stance that led Trump to threaten to cut all trade with Spain.
Sanchez responded with a national address declaring "no to the war," saying Spain would not "be complicit out of fear of reprisals." Belgium's defense minister Francken confirmed the country will not join the U.S. and Israel, limiting any role to defensive assistance if requested.
Magnette posted on X that the strikes "are part of a dangerous spiral" and that "Europe must break the silence." Belgium joins Spain, Denmark, France, and Italy in opposing the conflict.
