Hardly Art Celebrating (almost) 10 years of excellence

15 years of The Moondoggies' Tidelands!
There is something inherently calming about large bodies of water. In times of emotional duress, standing at the edge of an ocean watching the waves roll in and out, centers the spirit in a way that standing on terra firma cannot. Kevin Murphy (lead vocals, guitar) chose to title the Moondoggies’ album Tidelands in part because of a remote area outside his old stomping grounds of Ketchikan, Alaska where he used to go to escape from civilization. More importantly, as the sly recurring themes of water throughout the Seattle quartet’s second full-length underscore, these are songs crafted to provide solace, sense, and cause for celebration in a world fraught with turmoil. …

Happy 10 years to Shannon and the Clams' Gone By the Dawn!
The music is complex, the lyrical content is emotionally raw and honest, and the production is the strangest it’s ever been. The album was written as one member was recovering from a serious breakup and another was deep in one. The lyrics reflect it, and the entire album is dripping with sadness, pain, and introspection. Gone by the Dawn was recorded at Tiny Telephone in San Francisco and produced by Sonny Smith. Snag yr copy here-> https://hardlyart.xyz/shannonandtheclams_gonebythedawn

Happy 10 glorious years to La Luz's Weirdo Shrine!
In early 2015, La Luz adjourned to a surf shop in San Dimas, California where, with the help of producer-engineer Ty Segall, they realized the vision of capturing the band’s restless live energy and committing it to tape. Weirdo Shrine finds them at their most saturated and cinematic -- the sound of La Luz is (appropriately) vibrant, and alive with a kaleidoscopic passion. Catch them now on our big sibling label, Sub Pop. Listen + vinyl up here-> https://hardlyart.xyz/laluz_weirdoshrine

I Want to Grow Up was recorded at Sputnik Sound in Nashville, TN and was Green's first album professionally recorded in a studio. It features Jake Orrall of JEFF The Brotherhood on guitar and Diarrhea Planet's Casey Weissbuch on drums. The album received accolades from publications such as Pitchfork, Stereogum, Rolling Stone, LA Times and The New York Times, whose Ben Ratliff wrote: "Around her songs, there is a basic air of competence, toughness, self-reliance — she's organized her sound, has identified her neuroses and doesn't need your help."

5 years of Girl Friday's Androgynous Mary!
Burning deep in Girl Friday's music is an unquenchable will to survive. The LA-based band don't blunt the impact of the themes they work through in their ferocious, knotty rock songs, but they don't let the more harrowing aspects of being alive and young in the 21st century daunt them, either. Taking full advantage of the dystopian shades of post-punk and noise rock palettes on their arresting debut LP, Androgynous Mary, Girl Friday nevertheless suffuse their music with abundant optimism. The world is a hellscape, but the four of them are in it together. Listen now-> https://hardlyart.xyz/girlfriday_androgynousmary

15 years of the Unnatural Helpers' Cracked Love & Other Drugs!

The group have been banging around Seattle as the perennial hobbyhorse of Dean Whitmore, who has also spent time with the Intelligence, Welcome, and Dipers. Anyone who has witnessed the live show over the years will be well familiar with the band’s taut, muscular guitar-rock, driven by Whitmore’s whip-tight drumming and usually caustic, often self-deprecating vocals. Oh, and the songs are always short. Very short.
