I don’t really know where to start with this one…

I wanted to take my time before posting, as this is a difficult situation. Mark Byrd was my teacher, coach, mentor, but most of all he was my friend. We didn’t talk very often, but I always enjoyed seeing him walking toward me. We would both start smiling and the witty banter would begin. I don’t remember a time when I was around him in the past 13 years that we both didn’t smile and share a laugh.

When he would come visit the school where I was assigned, we would always walk around and catch up with each other. We would discuss things going on within the schools, sports, and he always asked about my family and how everyone was. He was always nice to everyone and I never saw him belittle or disrespect anyone.

I guess we will never have our big rematch we always carried on about. Some of you may know what this is in reference to, but if not that is fine. Byrd and I knew and it dates all the way back to track season in 2002. We all had such a great time that year! Coach Byrd had other doors open for him and he left the next year. Track was not the same during my senior year. There were still fun moments, and memories were created, but it was not even close to the experience I had with Coach Byrd!

I have so much I want to say but this post is getting lengthy. I know the positive impact Mr. Byrd had on so many people, in so many different ways. I urge each of you to remember him for the positive impacts he had on you or someone you knew. Pass that positivity on to those you encounter throughout your life!

This is a reminder of just how precious life is. Keep your family close, tell others how much you appreciate them, and let them know that you love and care about them. I hope he knew the tremendous impact he had on me and so many others in our community. I admired you Coach Byrd and you will be missed! Fly high and continue to watch over us…

All Primary Candidate Videos Are Now Live!

We’ve finished creating individual videos for every candidate running in the upcoming primary. These videos can be found on the Joe in the Know YouTube channel. To make things easy to navigate, the videos are organized by the specific races they’re running for so you can quickly find the category you’re interested in and hear directly from each candidate. There were no edits made from the time the candidates were seated and ready to start up through their finish.

This is all about helping our community stay informed, engaged, and connected. Feel free to watch, share, and discuss with others in Wilkes County. Please be respectful and keep all discourse civil.

First, I would like to thank everyone who showed up to support our candidates that are running in the upcoming elections. It was a great turnout, and everyone listened intently throughout the entire process.

Next, I would like to thank each and every one of you who watched the livestreams and also showed support to Joe in the Know. It means a lot and we really appreciate all of you!

Finally, it has been amazing to see how involved Wilkes County has been through tuning in and watching the forums. It is so important to get to know who the candidates are so you can make the best, most informed vote possible. That being said, I have been working to edit down the livestream to the individual categories by office. I just posted the Commissioners and Sheriffs videos to our Youtube channel.
