Michael Sang Correa, a former member of ex-president Yahya Jammeh’s feared Junglers squad, has been sentenced in the United States to 67 years and 6 months in prison for crimes of torture.

This historic case marks the first time a non-U.S. national has been convicted under the U.S. Torture Act for acts committed abroad. Correa was found guilty in April on one count of conspiracy to commit torture and five counts of torture, linked to brutal abuses at The Gambia’s Mile 2 Prison in 2006.

The U.S. government had recommended up to 120 years, but the court imposed 67 and a half years.

Momodou Martin Sanyang – D25,000 fine + 3 years hard labour

Serigne Mass Gaye – D1,000 fine + 3 months hard labour & D25,000 fine + 3 years

Muhammed Bah – D20,000 fine (or 2 years) + D25,000 fine + 3 years

Ismaila Faal – D25,000 fine + 3 years & D20,000 fine (or 2 years)

Samba Ceesay – D25,000 fine + 3 years

👉 Sanyang and Gaye, being under 18, will serve their sentences at Jeshwang Prison.
👉 Others face hard labour terms at Mile 2.

Lawyer Essa Mbye Faal has issued a public apology over his recent comments about the University of The Gambia. In a statement, Faal admitted that his remarks caused anger and disappointment among many Gambians, stressing that his intention was never to belittle the University or its graduates.

He acknowledged the achievements of UTG graduates both locally and internationally, while calling for constructive dialogue to improve the country’s education system. Bob Keita Apologies to President Barrow, CG Darboe

Keita in a facebook post this morning has expressed his deepest regret in sharing a private conversation he had with president Barrow, which was arranged by his brother in law Yankuba Darboe the Commissioner General of Gambia Revenue Authority.

In his public apology Bob acknowledged that his public comments following days of his detention were mistake made out of emotions after his release, that the conversation he had with president was never intended for public discourse.

Following deep introspection since the incident, I have come to understand the consequences of my actions, particularly the pain and discomfort they have caused within my own family, Keita said

Bob concluded by issuing a public apology “I ask for forgiveness from my family, but more so, His Excellency, the President, my Brother in-law and from all those who may have been disappointed by my actions” Bob Said.

The Gambia Police Force has successfully secured a conviction against Dawda Jawara, one of the individuals arrested for reckless car drifting. He was found guilty on two counts by the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court and fined D30,000. Failure to pay could land him in jail for 3 to 5 years.
