Mr. Wong in Chinatown was released 84 years ago today on August 1, 1939. This was 3rd time Boris Karloff played detective Mr. Wong. Karloff would play Mr. Wong 2 more times and American Chinese actor Keye Luke took over the series for the 6th and final entry in the series.

Mr. Wong in Chinatown introduced the sidekick reporter, Roberta 'Bobbie' Logan played by Marjorie Reynolds who would reprise her role aside Karloff 2 more times.

In Mr. Wong in Chinatown, a pretty Chinese woman, seeking help from San Francisco detective James Lee Wong, is killed by a poisoned dart in his front hall, having time only to scrawl "Captain J" on a sheet of paper. She proves to be Princess Lin Hwa.

Released in the U.S. on this date July 27, 1945, WOMAN IN GREEN is the 11th film in the 14 film series starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as Holmes and Watson. The successful franchise started in 1939 with The Hound of Baskervilles and finished in 1946 with Dressed to Kill. In 1943 Rathbone & Bruce appeared as the famous team in a cameo in the Olsen and Johnson comedy Crazy House. In 1953 Rathbone reprised his role as Holmes in a TV episode of Suspense. This time, for the first time, someone else played his Watson; it was a Man Named Green in Martin Green.
