Tropical Depression "Auring" has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility, PAGASA announced in its 11 AM update today. Tropical Depression “AURING” is forecast to move generally westward or west-southwestward in the next 12 hours.

Afterwards, “AURING” will move generally west-northwestward and is forecast to make landfall over Caraga on Saturday evening or Sunday morning as Tropical Storm.

However, localities in Visayas, Bicol Region, MIMAROPA, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Cotabato, and Lanao del Sur, especially those situated in areas identified in hazard maps to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards, are advised to take appropriate preparatory measures due to increasing likelihood of heavy rains and gusty conditions associated with the potential passage of a tropical cyclone during the weekend through Monday.

Meanwhile, the Tail-End of a Frontal System will bring moderate to heavy rains over Eastern Visayas, Sorsogon, Masbate, Albay, Catanduanes and light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Central Visayas, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and the rest of Bicol Region.

Isolated flooding and rain-induced landslides may occur due to heavy rainfall or prolonged periods of rainfall, especially in areas identified in hazard maps to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards. Adjacent or nearby areas may also experience flooding in the absence of such rainfall occurrence due to surface runoff or swelling of river channels.

At 10:00 AM today, the center of Tropical Depression "Auring" was estimated at 900 km East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

By Saturday morning, February 20, 2021, Tropical Depression “Auring” is predicted to be at around 290 km East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

“ULYSSES” intensified into typhoon at 8:00 AM today and may reach its peak intensity of 130-155 km/h prior to landfall. It may slightly weaken as it crosses mainland Luzon due to frictional effects in the presence of the Sierra Madre and Zambales Mountain Ranges.

However, it is likely to remain a typhoon throughout its traverse.

Throughout the passage of the typhoon, destructive typhoon-force winds will be experienced in areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (or TCWS) #3, damaging gale- to storm-force winds in areas under TCWS #2, and strong breeze to near gale conditions in areas under TCWS #1.

In other areas, the rest of Northern Luzon will be experiencing strong breeze to gale-force winds due to the surge of the Northeast Monsoon.

Heavy to intense with at times torrential rains will be experienced over Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes until tonight. Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over Albay, Sorsogon, Quezon including Polillo Islands, and Burias and Ticao Islands.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Visayas.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains over the rest of Luzon and Visayas.

There is a high risk of storm surge with heights of up to 3 meters over the coastal areas of Quezon including Polillo Islands, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, and the northern and eastern coastal areas of Camarines Sur, and up to 2 meters over the coastal areas of La Union, Pangasinan, Isabela, Zambales, Aurora, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, northern portions of Mindoro Provinces including Lubang Island, Marinduque, Romblon, Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands, Albay, and Sorsogon, and the remaining coastal areas of Camarines Sur.

These storm surges, which may be accompanied by swells and/or breaking waves near the coast, can cause life-threatening and damaging coastal inundation. Moreover, there is also a moderate risk of seiche or storm surge over the coastal areas surrounding Laguna de Bay.

These areas under Signal #2 may experience damaging gale-to storm-force winds ranging from 61 to 120 km/h prevailing or expected in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, PAGASA placed the following areas under Signal #1:

Quirino,
Nueva Vizcaya,
the eastern portion of Pangasinan,
Aurora,
Nueva Ecija,
Tarlac,
Pampanga,
Bulacan,
the central and southern portions of Zambales,
Bataan,
Quezon including Polillo Islands,
Metro Manila,
Rizal,
Laguna,
Cavite,
Batangas,
the rest of Camarines Norte,
Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands,
Marinduque,
Romblon,
Oriental Mindoro,
and Occidental Mindoro including Lubang Island
Northern Samar,
and the northern portion of Samar.

Provinces under Signal #1 will have strong breeze to near gale conditions during the passage of the storm.

PAGASA warns that in the next 48 hours, moderate to high risk of storm surge of 1 to 2 meters over the coastal areas of

These storm surges, which may be accompanied by swells and breaking waves reaching the coast can cause life-threatening and damaging coastal inundation.

PAGASA likewise warns that in the next 24 hours, rough to very rough seas (or waves of 2.5 to 5 meters) will be experienced over the entire seaboards of Northern Luzon and the seaboards of Kalayaan Islands due to the surge of the Northeast Monsoon.

Moderate to rough seas will be experienced over the remaining seaboards of the country. Mariners of small seacrafts are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions.

“ULYSSES” is forecast to intensify into a severe tropical storm tonight. It may rapidly intensify into typhoon category by tomorrow morning and reach its peak intensity tomorrow afternoon or evening. Landfall at or near peak intensity is highly likely.

Tropical Storm “ULYSSES” will move generally west-northwestward today, then turn westward tomorrow morning. Its center is more likely to make landfall over Quezon on Thursday early morning, with a close approach of Catanduanes and Camarines Norte tomorrow afternoon and evening, respectively.

However, slight southward shift in the orientation of the track forecast shows an increasing likelihood of landfall over Bicol Region tomorrow afternoon or evening.

At 4:00 PM today, the center of Tropical Storm "ULYSSES" was estimated at 375 km East Northeast of Virac, Catanduanes or 500 km East of Daet, Camarines Norte.

By tomorrow morning, its predicted position is around 90 km North of Virac, Catanduanes and then 110 km West of Subic, Zambales by THursday afternoon.
