Joe Kane has been a genre-film name you can trust since 1972, when he joined the original editorial staff of the pioneering terror tabloid The Monster Times. In 1984, he adopted the even more trustworthy persona of The Phantom of the Movies®, covering the genre-movie and video beat for The New York Daily News, a tradition that continues to this day, and authoring two essential tomes, The Phantom's

Ultimate Video Guide (Dell) and The Phantom of the Movies' VideoScope: The Ultimate Guide to the Latest, Greatest, and Weirdest Genre Videos (Three Rivers Press/Random House). In 1993, the Phantom begat The Phantom of the Movies'® VideoScope®, the Ultimate Genre DVD Guide, which began life as a newsletter but soon morphed into a nationally distributed magazine, a one-stop source for the latest in genre home entertainment coverage. Each issue of VideoScope magazine includes over 100 new DVD reviews covering the entire genre spectrum: Horror, Sci-Fi, Action, Asian, Cult, Camp, Classic, Animation, Thrillers, Indies, Film Noirs, Art-House, Verite, Vintage, Tele-Video, Exploitation and more, written by experts in their fields. VideoScope magazine has published candid exclusive interviews with genre celebs from "A" (Dario Argento) to "Z" (Rob Zombie), along with Linda Blair, Jackie Chan, Wes Craven, Willem Dafoe, Guillermo del Toro, Lance Henriksen, Walter Hill, Julie Newmar, John Waters and literally scores more. In the magazine and on the site, you'll discover behind-the-scenes features, info on DVD debuts, the scoop on locating hard-to-find titles, and all the usual much, much more-told the untamed way! Welcome to the Something Weird Archive!
www.somethingweirdarchive.com This is an Archival Reference Resource for most of the titles that Something Weird Video released on home video between 1996-2024. Consider it a digital Catalog to be used for research and entertainment purposes. Many years went into writing the descriptions and synopsis, so we decided to keep and turn the old SWV website into an informational resource (like a low-budget IMDB) for Weirdos. Here you can be a looky-loo and peruse the titles SWV put out in the past and dive deep into our decades in the making legacy. It’s remarkable just how many videos SWV released over the years (if we do say so ourselves!)

Again, although it still looks like the janky old SWV website, THIS IS NOT A RETAIL WEBSITE ANYMORE. You CANNOT log-in and order videos from this website, so please DO NOT enquire and ask us if or how you can buy them. This archival website is for INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY and primarily meant to document SWV’s history and past home video releases. However, soon Weirdos can go to www.somethingweird.com again to see what’s still available for purchase on Blu-ray, DVD, Soundtrack Albums, and other Ephemera from us (the retail website is currently undergoing maintenance). In the meantime, there are links on the Something Weird Archive website’s front page to our video Partner labels, streaming channels, and our free YouTube Channel where you can order or watch SWV content to your heart's content! Stay Tuned and Stay Weird!

In the current issue of Videoscope Magazine #124.

An interview with cult icon Mink (Nancy Paine Stoll) Stole who first appeared in friend John Waters’ first film Roman Candles (1966) and, as one of his Dreamland Players, has since appeared in all of his films.

TD What about Edith Massey? Did you know her well off-camera?
MS I knew her as well as anybody. She had a shop right down the street from where I lived in Baltimore back in the 1970s. She wasn’t a very…she had a certain street savvy but she wasn’t an intellectual by any means. You know? She didn’t read. So it was difficult to really have conversations with her.
