Paul Osbourne - News, podcasts, tea drinking Journalist, broadcaster, podcaster. Frequently to be found talking on the radio, or shouting at the television.

I make podcasts, and appear on radio, TV and online talking about stories in the news. I also fiddle with gadgets, spend too much on pens, and drink industrial amounts of tea.

The RNLI launched its lifeboats around 9,000 times last year. Almost 99% of those launches were not migrant rescues.

Yet these volunteers who drop everything at a moment’s notice to save the lives of strangers are being cast as villains by masked mobs who will likely never do anything remotely as heroic.

Not everyone is as moronic as the far-right agitators targeting RNLI volunteers — donations to the charity spike every time they’re criticised.

Protestors at Reform UK’s conference in Birmingham got a rough ride from delegates — and some have alleged they were physically assaulted.

But leading figures in the party have been laughing it off, telling them to “get a life.”

How will that go down with the kind of voters Reform needs to win over from other parties? Are people OK with beating up protestors now?

Andy Burnham had an unusually lucky start as Prime Minister. No Parliament, no PMQs, few annoying questions. But that’s all over.

MPs have returned to Westminster, a tricky Budget is around the corner, and Burnham has to set out how he’ll deliver his promise to bring back hope.

How long can the “Burnham Bounce” last? How long will voters give him to bring about real change? And why did Keir Starmer choose such a damaging time to announce his final political u-turn — resigning as an MP?

“Leave us alone. Also, would you like to buy my jam and my yoga mat?"

A cynic might call this a plot twist straight out of daytime soap opera — the dramatic return to the scene they stormed out of six years ago.

Harry and Meghan insist they're private citizens who deserve to be left alone...

But can you be a private citizen and while hawking branded jam at the same time?

Nigel Farage won the Clacton by-election... and then ran away from his own count.

He said it was a security threat. The police say they never advised him to stay away.

Perhaps what he couldn’t face was the humiliation of standing alongside 33 fringe candidates, including Count Binface, who took a record 27% share, and nearly 10,000 votes.

What does Farage's no-show says about Reform UK's wobble? Is the shine coming off a little faster than he would like?

It's by-election night in Clacton — almost certainly the strangest one Britain's had in years.

Nigel Farage is trying to win back the seat he resigned from in July, furious at questions about his finances.

Count Binface is the closest thing to a serious rival, on a three-foot-long ballot paper with 34 names.

Here's what to watch for - on Substack, you can read why it matters more than the novelty headlines would suggest..

Nigel Farage wanted the Clacton by-election to be a bunfight between the main parties, so people would stop talking about his finances.

It hasn’t quite worked out that way… instead he’s lost an argument with Count Binface, even if he’s almost certainly going to win the by-election.

His lap of honour is turning into an embarrassment… read more on Substack — link in the comments..

Only one day of campaigning left in Britain’s weirdest by-election, where Nigel Farage has decided to confront allegations about his finances by losing a moral argument to a man with a bin on his head…

Melon Madness: Australia's Most Ludicrous Political Row

Two melons lie at the centre of an attempt by newspapers to create a diplomatic incident between Australia and Japan.

The Australian prime minister, Anthony Albanese, is being accused of making offensive remarks on a podcast about the gift he received from his Japanese counterpart.

That’s despite pretty much nothing being said about it in Japan, or Australia, until a newspaper decided to create a non-existent scandal, and the rest of the media just followed along behind.

When the real issues get too hard, a fruit-based non-scandal will do just fine. Desperately unserious.

Andy Burnham’s opponents are so rattled by this…

The new Prime Minister, being normal, is driving his opponents up the wall. Andy Burnham will feel he’s off to a good start — but the real tests are yet to come…
