A Short Review of “The Doctrine of Christ, His “My Church”, and the Kingdom”, volume 7 part 2 of the Bible Backbone Self-interpretation Series
Hebrews has two major emphasis: the falling away and the doctrine of Christ therefore a Part 1 and Part 2 to this volume of Bible Backbone and self interpretation. "Doctrine of Christ" might at first sound a little ominous, however much easier than Melchizedek until you understand Christ is the original type and Melchizedek is the antitype. At the lowest level of simplicity on the doctrine of Christ, we turn to the Apostle who made every thing really clear.
2 John 1:9 KJV
9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
And the context for understanding--the doctrine of Christ is to believe that Jesus Christ came in the flesh, could that be any more simple! And look at the total context below to see how important it is to believe and confess that Jesus, the Son of God, came in the flesh.
For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
NOTICE Please the importance of abiding in Christ, for while the Gospel of John gives how to initially believe in Jesus, I and II John tell how to remain in belief, I like to call it continuing faith. One author writes online:
"Sixteen of the 121 NT uses of menō (abide) appear in John 14–15. The first fifteen clearly refer to a particularly close relationship between (1) members of the Trinity with each other, or (2) a special relationship that is potential for believers—which some believers enjoy with the Lord."

As for clarity on abiding IN CHRIST:
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2
Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3
And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the
world.\
IT IS A SIMPLE MATTER, THIS DOCTRINE OF Christ: CONFESS THAT Jesus Christ has come in the flesh, you are of God and abide in Christ; deny that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh, and you are aa bad spirit that listens to Antichrists, and goodness knows there are plenty of those kind in the world.
Parenthetical note: “And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.”
Note that once again the New King James Version uses the word “teaching”, the teaching of Jesus, in the place of the word “doctrine” in the King James Version. Wow, we had best listen here; for indeed, Jesus does speak with authority.
Does it help you to substitute teaching for doctrine in the doctrine of Christ, because something about doctrine seems too scholarly or reminds us of student days? I would urge you to get use to the word "doctrine" and the phrase "doctrine of Christ", for it is very much Bible.
Matthew 16:12.
“Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
Here doctrine is compared by Jesus Himself to the leaven in the bread, so deadly as can be the affect of unsound teachings of doctrines from men. We think of the little treatise that James made in his book of the deadly affects of a “tongue” gone astray, then we think of that tongue having with it the killing affects of leaven. Would that preachers and pastors of the SBC had recognized about 1972 the leaven and doctrines of Scofield mites as erosions of sound doctrine.
Now or goal in this volume 10, part 2. is to advance on the doctrine of Christ, with I John as the foundation, going beyond that in understanding of THE CHRIST. That we find in Hebrews 6:13-12:29. Excerpt from this volume on the Doctrine of Christ.
From previous studies and the writing of commentaries on the epistles of Paul, (yes, Paul wrote Hebrews), one develops the habit of looking for the outline of the epistle itself within the epistle. Paul does that all the time. Perhaps it was his nature as a lawyer of the Hebrew nation. And I had the conviction that somehow Hebrews 6:1-3 would be that outline of the whole book of Hebrews. The problem was in the real meaning of leaving behind the first principles of Christ, or fundamental doctrines, then going on to more advanced doctrines. You know sort of like in college when you study first fundamentals of any subject, then pass on to the more advanced courses. Well, it turns out that the Doctrine of Christ and related fundamental doctrines are not exactly that way!
8-1: A Preliminary Look at the Subject of the Chapters in Hebrews.
As I looked at each chapter before Hebrews 6:1-3, it became apparent that each was a different aspect of the Doctrine of Christ with the underlying aspects of repentance, faith, baptism, laying on of hands, resurrection, and judgment. Look at that with me briefly.
1. The Son of God Himself purged our sins and sat down on the right hand of God. (Hebrews 1:1-14)
a. the final spokesman for God
b. the heir of God
c. the co-creator of the universe
d. the manifestation of the glory of God
e. the image of the Father
f. and the sustainer of the universe
2. Jesus, temporarily made a little lower than the angels, that by the grace of God He should taste death for everyone (Hebrews 2:9-18).
3. Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our Calling (Hebrews 3:1-4:15), in all points tempted as we are yet without sin.
4. Jesus, the high priest, Son of God and priest like Melchisedec, the author of eternal salvation (Hebrew 5:1-10)
You see what I mean: each chapter is another way of talking about the very fundamental doctrine of Christ. How although the Son of God, He was obedient to the will of God, dying on the cross for our sins; and then sitting down on the right hand of God until something.
Then when I looked again at the chapters after Hebrews 6:1-3, although I was expecting more advanced doctrine--whatever that is--I found a repetition of more fundamental doctrine on the Doctrine of Christ with the underlying principles.
1. Hebrews 7:1- 28: Jesus, a forever priest like Melchisedec, is able to save to the uttermost that come to God by Him.
2. Hebrews 8:1-5
“Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.” (Hebrews 8:1,2)
3. The More Excellent Ministry of the Doctrine of Christ is the Mediator of a Better Covenant, Hebrews 8:6-9:10.
4. Christ, the high priest of things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle and by the way of His own blood obtained eternal redemption for us, Hebrews 9:11-28.
5. A fundamental doctrine of Christ: don’t put sacrifice, a shadow, in the place of the real body of Christ given for the sins of the world, Hebrews 10:1-18.
You see what I mean! Almost the whole book of Hebrews, except for perhaps the last three chapters which would fall into the typical category like Paul’s other epistles of “special instructions” for Christians is on the Foundational Doctrine of Christ. The underlying principles like judgment, repentance, faith, etc. are also there and we will look at those later, after we have a more significant grasp of “doctrine of Christ” and of what Paul means when he writes in Hebrews 6:1-3 of moving on from the fundamentals. It is obvious that he did not move away from the fundamental of the Doctrine of Christ in Hebrews as he kept hitting on it in each chapter.
1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
5 For to which of the angels did God ever say,
“You are my Son;
today I have become your Father”[a]?
Or again,
“I will be his Father,
and he will be my Son”[b]?
6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,
“Let all God’s angels worship him.”[c]
7 In speaking of the angels he says,
“He makes his angels spirits,
and his servants flames of fire.”[d]
8 But about the Son he says,
“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;
a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
by anointing you with the oil of joy.”[e]
10 He also says,
“In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
11 They will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
12 You will roll them up like a robe;
like a garment they will be changed.
But you remain the same,
and your years will never end.”[f]
13 To which of the angels did God ever say,
“Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet”[g]?
14 Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

Work of the Ministry versus Denominational Professionalism 6
John R. Rice was right about one thing, “There is one church but many churches”. And this is a weakness in the SBC. 6
It is obvious to the serious student of the overall New Testament, that membership in the church, the one body of Christ, is about the same as membership in the kingdom of God. 7
What do we learn from the boys at DTS and other Scofield devotees. (We could easily call them children, because any such pastors and teachers that are tossed about by winds of doctrine like the heresies of the criminal Scofield are called by the Word in Ephesians 4 as children.) 17
