I wrote an update over the past view months and I haven't even included CHIO Rotterdam, CHIO Aachen, the GCTA in Valkenswaard and the Baran Hunter show in Valkenswaard. I had so many wonderful encounters and I learned a lot! Also these four shows where packed with amazing experiences! L-Texas joined Josiane and they are both keeping an eye on me... :(
Bringing depth to equestrian journalism - breeding, sport & horse welfare
Tijdens het afgelopen CHIO Rotterdam liep de temperatuur flink op. Terwijl de zon brandde op het terrein, zocht ik verkoeling in het strodorp – de gezellige verzamelplek voor stands en winkeltjes. Daar stuitte ik op iets wat ik tot dan toe alleen van naam kende: de Skycooler. En wat een ontdekking bleek dat te zijn.
Bij de stand van Skycooler stonden twee modellen opgesteld: een mobiele unit van ruim twee meter lang en een kleinere versie die je eenvoudig op tafel kunt plaatsen. De verfrissende koude waterdruppels die veranderen in koude luchtdeeltjes voelen als een weldaad in de zomerse hitte, en ik begreep meteen waarom dit systeem ook in de paardenwereld steeds meer terrein wint.
𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗸𝗼𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘀
Ook bij de stallen was een Skycooler geplaatst, en het effect op de paarden liet zich niet ontkennen. Op televisiebeelden was duidelijk te zien hoe de dieren zichtbaar genoten van de verkoeling. Goed getrainde paarden kunnen doorgaans prima met warmte omgaan, maar extra ondersteuning tijdens hete dagen is absoluut welkom. De Skycooler helpt hen hun warmte beter kwijt te raken, wat direct bijdraagt aan het paardenwelzijn.
𝗠𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗸𝗼𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴
Wat de Skycooler extra bijzonder maakt, is dat het systeem meer doet dan alleen verkoelen. Insecten zoals vliegen hebben een hekel aan de koude waterdruppels die veranderen in koude luchtdeeltjes, wat zorgt voor een rustiger omgeving in en rond de stallen. Daarnaast helpt het apparaat om stofdeeltjes uit de lucht te halen. Bij het opstrooien van boxen komt vaak veel stof vrij, wat belastend kan zijn voor paarden met gevoelige luchtwegen – én voor de mensen die ermee werken. Even de Skycooler aanzetten tijdens het strooien maakt een merkbaar verschil: schonere lucht en minder irritatie.
Ook op praktisch vlak is de Skycooler een uitkomst. Je hoeft niet langer met gieters of tuinslangen de stalpaden nat te maken om stofvorming tegen te gaan; de koude waterdruppels die koude luchtdeeltjes worden doen het werk voor je. Sommige modellen kunnen zelfs aangesloten worden op de waterleiding van de drinkbakken en dragen zo bij aan een koeler, frisser stalklimaat – inclusief gedeeltelijke neutralisatie van geur.
𝗢𝗼𝗸 𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗲𝗴 𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘇𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻
De voordelen van de Skycooler houden niet op bij de stal. Het systeem kan worden ingebouwd in vrachtwagens, zowel in grote paardenauto’s als in tweepaardsvervoer. Zeker bij noodtransport – bijvoorbeeld naar een kliniek tijdens een hittegolf – is het comfort en welzijn van het paard van het grootste belang. Een Skycooler maakt het verschil tijdens zulke stressvolle momenten.
Overal inzetbaar
Niet alleen paarden profiteren van deze innovatieve koeler. De Skycooler komt ook in huis, op kantoor of in de tuin uitstekend van pas. Of je nu in de buitenlucht werkt, een evenement organiseert, of gewoon thuis van je terras wilt genieten – de verkoelende koeldruppels die koude luchtdeeltjes worden maken warme dagen aangenamer voor iedereen.
Een echte win-win voor iedereen die met paarden leeft én voor wie simpelweg van comfort houdt.

Ich habe die aktuelle Ausgabe des ZÜCHTERFORUM noch nicht erhalten, aber die ersten Leser haben mir bereits Nachrichten geschickt.
In der Maiausgabe erscheint der erste Teil meines Artikels über den Stamm der Opaline des Pins. Es handelt sich um eine Linie mit viel Geschichte, geprägt von Züchtern, die eine bedeutende Rolle in der Pferdezucht gespielt haben.
Auch heute noch ist die Vererbungskraft dieses Stammes in der Zucht spürbar – sei es durch Hengste direkt aus dieser Linie oder durch deren Einfluss in den Mutterlinien von Stuten und Hengsten.
Ein Stamm, der immer wieder ein neues Kapitel in der Zuchtgeschichte schreibt.

Chadora Lady is a mare I met for the first time this year at The Dutch Masters. Thanks to Rolex, I had the opportunity to visit her in the stables with a group of fellow journalists. Scott Brash spoke very highly of her. The pair finished second in the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping at The Dutch Masters earlier this year, and today they won the LGCT Grand Prix of Shanghai.
She is now 12 years old, by Chacco-Blue out of Nindora by Nintender, breeder: Gestüt Lewitz Her pedigree includes a double cross on Contender. It's otherwise a typical Gestüt Lewitz lineage, with a slight deviation through the stallion Voltaire.
I particularly like the fact that Contender appears twice in her pedigree, and also that Nintender is the damsire—a stallion who, in my opinion, has been somewhat overlooked by breeders.

Passionate about bloodlines of sporthorse breeding.
I grew up in Dokkum, the Netherlands, and have already from early on an interest in horses. When I was 11 I discovered a breeder just outside Dokkum. The horses on this farm would become the foundation for my passion and interest in bloodlines. One particular yearling, a beautiful black filly, would become very important to me through the years that we both got older. I was always fascinated by writing. My father was famous in our neighborhood for writing articles in the local football magazine and really has his way of putting his thoughts on paper.
The earlier mentioned black filly, Josiane, was born in Schleswig-Holstein (Germany) and she was registered in the Holsteiner Studbook. I wanted to do more research to her bloodlines and that is how I traveled in 2003 to Holstein. I was invited by Karen Reid from the USA, to come to Holstein to learn more about Holsteiner. I met her in Neumünster during the stallion approvals and spent time with her after the stallion approvals in the lovely town Haselau. This small town was famous because of the amazing stallion Contender. This stallion was together with Josiane the reason that I decided in 2012 to move to Schleswig-Holstein, to Haselau.
In 2007 I started to write for the Paardenkrant, in that time Mario Broekhuis was my editor. He really set me up and I enjoyed writing about Holsteiners for this newspaper. At that time Diarado became the champion stallion. After that I wrote for ‘Go Jump Magazine’ and ‘Equus Japan’. Thanks to Chris Hector I started to write several years ago for Breeding News for Sport Horses and I still do that today. I also wrote for Warmbloods Today and the magazine for AHHA (American Holsteiner Horse Association).
I always had and have the idea that I cannot write articles about horses and bloodlines with only book knowledge and sitting behind my desk. Through the years I have worked for owners and riders like Jos Lansink, Meredith Michaels Beerbaum, Erin Characklis, Theo Molenaers, etc. I wanted to learn more about the bloodlines of the horses that they had in the stables. With Jos Lansink I made one mistake… I only studied the passports of the Holsteiner bred horses… I would now study every passport. I find it just as informative to go to a foal show or to a 5* show.
Through the years I have visited breeders in Belgium, France, Germany, Poland and the Netherlands. I have set up quite a network of breeders that I know. Thanks to these visits I bought my first mare in January 2017 from Haras de Hus, L-Texas, she has the same sire as Josiane; Tin Rocco. It was pure out of emotion that I bought her. The Holsteiner breeding became the foundation of my passion and I am just as passionate about the Belgian, French, Dutch and other German bloodlines. My strength is with the jumping breeding but I also wrote articles about dressage horses.
In 2018 I became a member of the IAEJ (International Alliance of Equestrian Journalists). I have publications in Züchterforum, Hoefslag, Pferd+Sport, World Breeding News for Sport Horses, The Horse Magazine, Grand Prix Heroes and L'Eperon.
