WE'RE BRINGING IT HOME!

After a year of screenings, conversations, and rooms filled with new faces, OWNERSHIP is coming back to where so much of our community lives, creates, and gathers. We’re honored to share that the film has been officially selected for the City of Angels Film Festival.

There’s something special about screening in Los Angeles. It’s family. It’s longtime friends. It’s collaborators who’ve been part of the journey from the very beginning. It’s the people who’ve seen the late nights, the early drafts, and the quiet moments behind the scenes.

This festival feels like a pause to celebrate how far this film has traveled and everyone who helped carry it along the way. A moment to sit together, reflect, and take pride in what’s been built collectively over this past year.

We can’t wait to share this screening with our LA community and to celebrate the most amazing festival run we had this year.

When said this, it felt familiar. It captured exactly what we feel every time we look back on a Lagralane film.

The truth is, a film is built by hands, hearts, and trust. It’s late nights, quiet moments, creative disagreements, laughter between takes, and the shared belief that stories can change something in us and in the world.

If you’ve ever been part of a Lagralane film — in front of the camera, behind it, or anywhere in between — this is our heartfelt thank you. Thank you for your trust, your creativity, and your belief in the power of storytelling to spark change.

Together, we make films that not only entertain, but invite reflection, connection, and transformation.

Ava’s words are more than a moment. They are a reminder that we are living in a cultural era shaped by black storytellers, visionaries, and truth-tellers.

Her work has opened doors. Not only to make films, but to make films that reflect us, challenge us, and move us toward collective healing.

As filmmakers and creatives, we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us. We honor the artists who continue to shape the landscape now, building a world where our stories are centered, valued, and seen.

This is the first in an ongoing series where we highlight honorees whose work has shifted our industry and expanded what is possible.

Because, as Ava said, this is our time.
And we are here for it.

🎬 The stories that change us don’t always need a theater. Sometimes they just need your full attention, a quiet moment, and a space to feel.

From 10/25 – 11/10, you can stream a curated selection of powerful films through the Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Virtual Showcase. Each film in this collection holds truth, emotion, and conversation.

The Reel Sisters of the Diaspora has long championed films that center women, truth, and transformation. Whether you watch alone or invite others to join you, you become part of a community using storytelling to bridge understanding and inspire change.

Among these stories is OWNERSHIP, our award winning Lagralane short film. A film that unearths buried truths between two families, one Black and one white, forcing three women to confront the weight of history, legacy, and choice. It’s a story about what happens when love, obligation, and truth collide and how healing begins when we finally face what’s been hidden.

Virtual screenings like this one are more than access, they are opportunity. They give us a moment to reflect, discuss, and heal. They invite us to gather, to pause, and to talk about what these stories awaken in us.

Betty Jean. Stella. Aunt Denny. Cherry.

Four women. Not bound by blood, but by something deeper... a shared history that refuses to stay silent.

Each woman brings this story to life, revealing — layer by layer — the burdens they hold, the truths they protect, and the courage it takes to carry both.

Betty Jean faces a moral reckoning when the past arrives uninvited, forcing her to decide what responsibility looks like when the truth is uncomfortable.

Stella carries the weight of what was taken, searching for healing in a world that hasn't made space for her pain.

Aunt Denny holds generations of wisdom, struggling to find words for truths too heavy to speak.

Cherry inherits a legacy she feels entitled to, forced to confront what it really means to face your past.

Set in Alabama, Ownership weaves their stories into a tapestry of loss and discovery challenging us to reflect on our own legacies, our own beliefs, and the histories we share whether we acknowledge them or not.

This is more than a film. It's a mirror. A conversation. An Awakening. Keep the conversation going by visiting the www.ownershipthefilm.com to take the OWNERSHIP pledge and dive into a curated resource list to continue to explore this story.

🎞️Ownership is NOW streaming through the Reel Sisters Film Fest Virtual Screening Showcase.

✨ What a journey it has been for OWNERSHIP.

Over the past year, our film has been officially selected by more than 18 film festivals and has received many awards and multiple nominations across the country. Each recognition is an incredible honor and a reflection of the heart, dedication, and artistry poured into this story by our cast, crew, and creative family.

Beyond the awards, it is the conversations after every screening that move us most. The reflections, the shared emotions, and the honest dialogue remind us why we tell stories in the first place.

To every film festival that has embraced OWNERSHIP and to every audience member who has joined us on this journey, thank you. Your support continues to breathe life into this film.
,

💛 Here’s to the stories that spark connection and to the journey that continues.
