MUSIC NEWS Scotland was born over 9 years ago when dial up broadband was still around and desktop pc’s ruled. So we did what had been done since 220 AD in China and every month put ink on a printing plate, ran some paper over it and hey presto MNS was published (okay it was a wee bit more involved than that, but the basic principle was the same!)

Move on to 2011 with high speed broadband and access to the www everywhere and the future was catching up with us rapidly. The volume of information flowing into MNS HQ was more than our monthly issue could cope with, and more and more Scottish music stories of great value were being spiked (an old press term not a dodgy drink). Reaching our vast number of readers in every conceivable nook and cranny of Scotland has always been a challenge monthly but to do that more often was physically not feasible. So we have doffed oor tam o’ shanter to the future and MNS is now a weekly digital publication, and not only weekly now but twice the number of pages than our old printed friend! Along with our weekly GIGguide and FESTIVALS! supplement we are now producing 72 pages of Scottish music news (and only music news) each and EVERY week:)

We remain as true as ever to our launch roots of 8 years ago though - MUSIC NEWS Scotland supports all Scottish bands and performers no matter what style of music you’re involved in. Our aim is to circulate music industry news and to help to raise the profile of musicians and improve communications between genres. To help achieve this copies of MUSIC NEWS Scotland are emailed to key industry contacts throughout the UK. As the only 100% music publication in Scotland which is dedicated to covering ALL genres we can offer unique access to our country’s musical community from the Scottish Borders to Shetland

Thank you for your support over the last 8 years and please raise a glass to our digital future with you all. Thanks for your support,

The MNS team!

Happy Saturday! Wee reminder on our latest news this week:
* Our new mailing list is set-up but please check your spam if you signed up and haven't received anything as we've heard many got it in there including 368 people called Martin. This is a genuine bis mailing list so don't worry that it's anything dodgo. If you've not joined yet, you can do so at https://bistheband.kit.com/d4ee94b349
* We will open for Maximo Park Official and Art Brut at the o2 Academy in Glasgow Fri 6th Feb. We're delighted at the response to tix purchased since this was announced and hope team MP see this too 😍
* Our festival appearance for Firefly Festival (Dumfries) is our next gig and only THREE WEEKS away!
* Our long-awaited split 7" with Art Brut is nearing completion so apologies for the GIANT delay and we promise that it will be worth it as sounding bloody amazing!
* Our tour with EMF & Jesus Jones is less than 6 weeks away so well nervous and proof of another cracker of a 3 band bill!

In a daring blend of old and new, native Shetlander Norman Wilmore and Glasgow’s Corrie Dick are reimagining traditional Shetland music with their latest project, Twa Double Doubles. Diving into the rich musical heritage of the Shetland Islands, Norman and Corrie bring a fresh perspective to these age-old melodies.

Their set-up combines a drum kit, saxophone, and organ foot pedals with cutting-edge electronics, producing a vibrant sound that pays homage to the past while forging new paths.

Accompanying this performance will be the screening of a film by flourishing Scottish filmmaker Douglas Tyrrell-Bunge which documents the making of their album as well as dramatising some of the folklore from Shetland, and the stories of the melodies themselves.

See them in Islay - Sat 20th September at 5 pm - Bruichladdich Hall
