Tokyo: Trading the tourist trail for local life and finding your village neighbourhood in the world’s largest metropolis.

In recent years, Japan has emerged as one of the most sought-after destinations. When exploring its capital, the secret, though, is to avoid the tourist trail and famous attractions and instead anchor yourself in one of Tokyo’s urban villages. This way, this potentially overwhelming metropolis becomes a more intimate experience.

One of traveller Andrew Forbes' favourite spots is Azabu-Juban, a quietly upscale neighbourhood in Minato ward, one of twenty-three that make up the city. It’s not glitzy like Ginza, with its chic shopping, or chaotic like neon-lit Shibuya, where tourists jostle for a selfie on the emblematic scramble crossing. Instead, Azabu-Juban is the Tokyo where you’d want to live.

Meet Abigail Peters, winner of the 2025 Anthology Nature Writing Competition. A writer from East Anglia, Abigail currently lives in Iowa City, pursuing her MFA in fiction from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where she is a Truman Capote Fellow. She writes about grief in girlhood, mothers and daughters, and the isolation and beauty of the countryside. She is deeply inspired by working-class lives, the Fenlands and the Norfolk coastline. In 2023, she received the Clarissa Luard Award from Arts Council England for her work.

The sound of Dresden Cathedral’s historic Gottfried Silbermann organ fills the magnificent interior of the Dresden Catholic Cathedral (Katholische Hofkirche).

The largest and final instrument built by master organ builder Gottfried Silbermann, the organ was constructed between 1750 and 1755. It survived WWII after being dismantled for safekeeping and was later restored.

The cathedral itself, a Baroque masterpiece, was severely damaged during the 1945 air raids, when its roof and vaults collapsed. It was subsequently reconstructed after the war.

Today, free 30-minute organ concerts take place every Wednesday and Saturday in one of Dresden’s most beautiful historic settings.

The cathedral’s chief organist (Domorganist) is S*ebastian Freitag*.

For over half a century, Louis Mulcahy Pottery Potadóireacht na Caolóige has been creating distinctive handcrafted pieces from its workshop along Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way. Here, the deep blues of the ocean and the fiery reds of Kerry sunsets are captured in richly layered glazes, giving each piece a strong sense of place.
