With limited flat land, the city has developed vertically: buildings often have multiple street-level entrances and elevators scale cliffs to connect neighbourhoods. Roads layer up to five levels, and some underground streets reach thirty floors deep.

Andrew Pahmiyer is the winner of the 2024 Anthology Cover Art Competition.

Working both digitally and traditionally in physical mediums such as acrylics, oils and more recently oil pastels, Andrew strives to evoke deep emotion through his art. Each composition explores a narrative, blending metaphoric visuals with implied storytelling. By leaving room for interpretation, he invites the audience to find their own meaning within his work.

Meet the runners-up of the 2024 Anthology Cover Art Competition 🎨

2nd Place: An American artist working in photography and film, Marc Ripper’s work traces the quiet interplay between the mysterious and the everyday. His piece in his words: ‘A landscape tableau on the Oregon coast. Two girls wearing long blue dresses stand barefoot on ocean rock in smoke-hazed sunlight. The scene appears out of time, except one of them holds up a smartphone, gesturing the other into a photo pose.'

3rd Place: Award-winning artist Sharon McDaid of Silver Birch Gallery & Studio works primarily in oils in her native Inishowen. Her distinctive works capture the immediacy and ever-changing light of the Irish landscape, creating evocative pieces that linger in the imagination. Her piece in her words: ‘An oil study exploring mindfulness, quiet resilience, and patient stillness – all the noble attributes of the heron. Inspired by years of bird watching in the sanctuary of the Inishowen Peninsula, the elusive heron that resides there became my constant and quiet companion.’
