One year ago today East Village radio returned to our 1st Avenue booth, and 2,533 radio episodes ensued, infusing new life to the hood and spreading sonic love via our newfound transmissions created solely by our uber-talented crew of folks buoyed by the best listeners outside our glass walls. As we look at the threat today to US media operating outside the lines of what is being forcefully defined as acceptable, EVR emphasizes its mission of serving its NYC community and music fans looking for deeper exploration into all forms and genres. Thank you to everyone on staff and those tuned in who helped us through some growing pains and turbulence, all the creators who stepped through the door, our pals at next door, and and for reigniting the spark to get us going again. We've had some stellar guests in the booth and look forward to even more highlights to come. Thanks everyone! Come out to on Ave C next Wednesday 7/23 and have some drinks with us as we spin and celebrate! - Brian Turner/EVR GM

This Saturday 6/28 10am ET on The Cologne Affair with Jan Lankisch: The Space Lady is a truly unique phenomenon. Born as Susan Dietrich in 1948 in Pueblo, Colorado, the artist began performing music on the streets of Boston and San Francisco in the early 1970s, quickly gaining a growing fan base. While solo performers often hit the limits of what’s possible, this is not the case with Dietrich. She manages to infuse each of her cover songs with her unmistakable charm, revealing the beauty of an intimate rendition of tracks we might otherwise consider overloaded or kitschy. Since the 2000s, she has been rediscovered and has increasingly toured around the world. This year, for the second time since 2017, the 77 year old was a guest at Jan Lankisch's concert series "Always Coming Back To You." A perfect reason for an interview with this one-woman Sun Ra Arkestra.

In the second episode of The Cologne Affair, Jan Lankisch takes you right into the heart of his city: Cologne. Few labels have shaped the city’s sound as profoundly as Kompakt. Founded in 1993, it quickly became a techno institution, with its minimal sound influencing scenes around the world. The label has now released its 500th record—a box set celebrating its legacy. A perfect occasion to speak with Michael Mayer, co-founder of Kompakt and renowned DJ. In this episode, the two discuss growing up in rural southern Germany and how rave culture became a vital part of the community in its early days. Tune in Saturday the 24th 8am ET/2pm CET, or catch the archive.

Corman helped launch the careers of directors Scorsese, Bogdanovich, Coppola and Howard as well as actors Nicholson, Hopper, Fonda, Dern and Shatner. Saturday! We are thrilled to announce a new monthly East Village Radio show, The Cologne Affair, hosted by Jan Lankisch. Every 4th Saturday of the month 10 a.m.–12 noon Eastern Time (ET), 4–6 p.m. Central European Time (CET). Jan Lankisch is a Cologne based cultural curator and music promoter known for his work in the independent music scene. He co-founded the German music festival Week-End Fest, which is renowned for its eclectic and high-quality line-ups, bringing together legendary artists and emerging talent from around the world. Lankisch is driven by his passion for music, his curatorial vision, and his ability to create intimate, memorable experiences for audiences. The Cologne Affair features interviews and music by artists he has invited to play in his home town of Cologne or has discovered on his many travels. Ideas are exchanged and a shared love of music celebrated. Episode #1 arrives this Saturday, April 26, with special guest Nicky Siano. Very special thanks Suzanne Ciani for the jingle.

New York DJ legend Nicky Siano opened The Gallery in 1973 and later became a resident DJ at Studio 54. He helped shape the New York disco scene like no one else and played a key role in popularizing the sound worldwide. Jan Lankisch invited Siano for a residency at his Cologne-based festival, Week-End Fest, for a DJ set and remix project, and the two became friends. On March 18, 2025, Siano turned 70, and Lankisch visited him for a flamboyant birthday party at Coney Island’s El Dorado Disco bumper cars, where Siano played music all night long. The two caught up a week later to reflect on Nicky’s career spanning over 50 years.
