The GAU-8/A is famous for its enormous firepower, but the am******on is just as fascinating. Some A-10 rounds use depleted-uranium penetrators, whose extreme density helps concentrate kinetic energy on a small impact area. Under severe impact.

One fighter made this unusual control layout famous: the stick sits off to the pilot’s right and translates tiny inputs into electronic flight-control commands.

The YF-23’s unusual exhaust wasn’t just about appearance. Its long, flattened exhaust troughs were designed around low observability, helping shield hot engine exhaust and reduce infrared exposure from certain viewing angles. ✈

The YF-23 was Northrop’s radical entry in the Advanced Tactical Fighter competition. Its diamond-like wings, blended fuselage, separated exhausts, stealth-focused design, and supercruise capability made it unlike almost any fighter of its era. .

F-16 vs F-22 Two Generations of Side-Stick Control ✈
The F-16 helped make the right-hand side-stick famous, replacing a traditional center stick with a compact controller connected to a fly-by-wire flight-control system.
The F-22 carries the same basic philosophy into a newer generation, with a redesigned grip, different switch layout, and deeper integration with the aircraft’s digital flight-control and mission systems.
Both are built around the same idea: small, precise pilot inputs translated electronically into aircraft response.
Different aircraft. Different generations. Same control philosophy.
Which cockpit would you rather fly F-16 or F-22?

Guess the jet. ✈
One of the most distinctive fighter prototypes ever built — sharp angles, unusual planform, and a design focused heavily on stealth, speed, and survivability.
It looked unlike almost anything else flying at the time.
Can you identify this aircraft?

Guess the jet from one detail.
This large, angular intake was built to handle the enormous airflow demands of a high-speed twin-engine interceptor.
Look closely at the shape, the ramp geometry, and the way it blends into the fuselage.
Which aircraft do you think it belongs to?

Inside the B-2 Spirit ✈
The B-2’s flying-wing shape is only part of the story. Inside, nearly every major system is arranged around range, payload, and low observability.
Its shielded engine inlets help hide the compressor faces from radar, while four buried F118 engines sit deep inside the wing. Internal weapons bays keep external surfaces clean, and the exhaust system is shaped to help reduce infrared signature.
Add large internal fuel capacity, integrated avionics, and carefully aligned surfaces, and the result is one of the most distinctive stealth aircraft ever built.
Which part of the B-2’s design do you find most interesting?

Those sharp strakes beside the F-16’s cockpit aren’t just cosmetic. At high angles of attack, they generate powerful vortices that flow over the wings, boosting lift and helping manage airflow. During development, NASA Langley testing helped show how sharpening the strakes could improve high-AoA performance. ✈
