In 2005, he organised, together with STB, the 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘄𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀.

Last Friday, 𝗜𝗤 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗘𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘄𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝗱𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗻’𝘀 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗞𝗵𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱𝘆. 𝗪𝗲’𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀 – 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗮𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿. 5-year old Megan Khung died in the hands of her biological mother and her boyfriend. They tortured and tormented her for almost a year before she succumbed to a fatal punch to the stomach.

There were clear signs of abuse. There were multiple touchpoints - the Ministry, law enforcement and other government agencies as well as the kindergarten. Yet nobody was proactive enough.

In perhaps his most emotionally honest video commentary, 𝗜𝗤 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗘𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘄𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝗱𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗻 asks some painfully inconvenient questions. Transparency International consistently finds 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. In many democracies, especially in Asia, party funding is opaque. Many are beholden to corporations and high net-worth individuals.

Then, there are more oblique forms of power leveraging - pork barrel politics, gerrymandering and patron-client relationship.

The writing has been on the wall for years now, and citizens have just stomached it because of chronic power asymmetry. Even the best governed countries, such as Singapore, can do better.

𝗜𝗤 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗘𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗠𝗣, 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘄𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝗱𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗻 asks if the time has come for a radical change in the way democracies are ruled. 𝗛𝗲 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝗳 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘄. Surely there are alternatives.
