National Transit Authority Welcomes Arrival of New Fleet to Strengthen Public Transportation

Monrovia, Liberia-The National Transit Authority (NTA) is pleased to announce the arrival of the first thirty-five (35) buses out of a total fleet of sixty (60) vehicles being procured under a contractual agreement between ABK Motors Incorporated and the National Transit Authority.
In its January 2025 sitting, the Board of Directors of the NTA approved and authorized management, through a formal resolution, to finalize and execute an agreement with ABK Motors Incorporated for the provision of:

" 35 brand-new TATA mass transit buses (62-seater)
" 20 mini-buses (18-seater)
" 5 heavy-duty cargo trucks

This initiative is designed to strengthen the NTA existing operational capacity, ensuring efficient, affordable, and reliable public transport services across Liberia. Notably, the inclusion of cargo-handling trucks marks the first time in the NTA's history that such services will be offered, broadening the scope of its operations and impact.

The arrival of the first 35 brand-new TATA buses represents a significant milestone in the Government of Liberia's clearer vision to modernize and expand the nation's public transportation system. With additional mini-buses and cargo trucks expected in the coming months, this partnership underscores the government's and NTA's commitment to improving mobility, accessibility, and economic growth throughout the country.

Liberia is in the rise.

The United States has extended the validity period for Liberian B1, B2, and B1/B2 visas from 12 months to 36 months.

The new policy, which takes effect immediately, also removes the additional fees previously required after visa approval.

With the new three-year validity, Liberian travelers can make multiple trips to the U.S. for business or tourism without needing frequent renewals.

The move is expected to make travel easier and further strengthen the relationship between Liberia and the United States.

Guinea Distributes Motorcycles to Rural Teachers to Boost Education Access

The government of Guinea has begun distributing motorcycles to teachers in rural areas, in a move aimed at improving access to education across the country’s interior regions.

The initiative, launched under Président Mamadi Doumbouya’s administration, seeks to address one of the biggest challenges faced by rural educators transportation. Many teachers in remote areas struggle to reach schools due to poor road conditions and long distances.

Officials say the motorcycles will enable teachers to travel more easily, ensuring regular classes and better attendance for students. The move is part of the government’s broader agenda to strengthen the education sector and bridge the gap between urban and rural learning environments.

LDEA Arrests Five Guinean Nationals in Zwedru for Drug-Related Offenses

Officers of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) Grand Gedeh County Detachment arrested five Guinean nationals on October 22, 2025, at about 3:09 PM in Zwedru City. The operation, conducted at Polgal Pharmacy under a search and seizure warrant, led to the confiscation of 78 strips and 5 pieces of Tramadol, LD$660,000, US$500, (26) rams of single-barrel gun ammunition, one single-barrel gun, and a book.

The suspects include:
Amadou Barry, 40
Ashar Barr, 21
Abu Layee Sow, 38
Mamadu Jallah, 25
Alimatu Jallah, 18

All are currently detained at the LDEA headquarters in Zwedru for investigation. Upon conclusion, the seized items other than drugs will be turned over to the relevant authorities, while drug-related charges will be dealt with as per the new drug law
