It’s not only on August 4th that our hearts ache. The blast of 2020 has scarred hearts beyond a set date; we live with this anger, this sadness, this rage, every day. But this Memorial Day forces us to remember. One of the largest nonnuclear explosions in history and the largest urban blast since World War II.
An immense amount of ammonium nitrate, 2,750 tons, that was stored for years, neglected and an imminent threat all this time. They knew.
On August 4th 2020, we lost 218 lives. Seven thousand people were injured and a reported 300,000 left homeless.
Today, we honor the lives lost but we also remind the world that the Lebanese people STILL has had no answers or justice.
