The BBC has confirmed that Sir David Attenborough will return to narrate Blue Planet III in 2026 — even more remarkably, this announcement has come on his 100th birthday.
The original Blue Planet completely changed nature documentaries when it first aired 25 years ago, giving viewers an incredible look into parts of the oceans many people had never seen before. Blue Planet II then became one of the BBC’s biggest successes in recent years, while also raising awareness about the damage being done to marine life and our seas.
Now Blue Planet III promises to take things even further.
The new six-part series will focus on five major underwater habitats including Tropical Seas, Polar Waters, Open Ocean and The Deep. Thanks to major advances in camera technology, the BBC says viewers will see never-before-filmed behaviour, brand new underwater discoveries and stories that simply could not have been captured in previous years.
Unlike earlier series which focused heavily on the threats facing the oceans, this new instalment will also explore stories of resilience, recovery and hope.
At 100 years old, David Attenborough is still educating, inspiring and reminding millions why the natural world matters so much.
