Sangita Tamang Shines at Eastern India Strength Lifting Championship 2025

In a remarkable display of strength and determination, Miss Sangita Tamang, wife of Shri Suren Tamang from Majhitar, clinched two gold medals at the 3rd Eastern India Strength Man and Women's Lifting & IBP Championship 2025, held at Siliguri Indoor Stadium.

Sangita not only secured two golds but also bagged the prestigious Overall Highest Total Strength Lifting Trophy and the coveted Champion of the Champion Master Women's Trophy, bringing immense pride to her hometown and the Darjeeling Strength Lifting Association, the organizers of the grand event.

Her outstanding performance stood out among competitors from across Eastern India, cementing her status as a leading figure in women's strength lifting.

Chief Minister Attends State-Level Pre-Christmas Celebration 'Sikkim Rejoice' at Rangpo

Pakyong, December 23 (IPR): Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, accompanied by Madam Krishna Rai, honoured the State-Level Pre-Christmas Celebration 2024, themed "Sikkim Rejoice," which took place today at Rangpo Ground.

The event was attended by the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Cabinet Ministers, Members of the Legislative Assembly, Chairpersons, Advisors, Zilla Adhyaksha and Upadhyaksha, Press Secretary to the Honorable Chief Minister, Zilla Panchayats, Panchayats, government officials, church leaders, and devotees from various churches throughout the state.

The Chief Minister in his address conveyed heartfelt Christmas greetings to all attendees. He reflected on the 2023 Pre-Christmas Celebration, which was dedicated to "Prayer for Peace" and included prayers for the state in light of the recent flash floods. He expressed appreciation to all the community for their solidarity and support during that challenging period. He further lauded this year’s theme, "Sikkim Rejoice," as a celebration of unity, faith, and joy.

The Chief Minister emphasised the importance of spirituality and exemplifying goodness, indicating that he participated in the event to receive the Word of God.

He encouraged attendees to reflect profoundly on the message imparted and to integrate it into their daily lives for both personal and communal enhancement.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the harmonious coexistence of Sikkim's diverse communities, highlighting the respect and freedom granted to all religions and beliefs.

Earlier, Mr Jacob Khaling Rai, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, expressed sincere appreciation for the Chief Minister's unwavering commitment to fostering inclusivity and harmony among the various cultures within the state. Under his leadership, the government has emerged as a beacon of equality, valuing and supporting the rich tapestry of cultures and religions that extend beyond mere administration.

The Guest Speaker, Aacharya Vikas Massey, delivered a profound spiritual message, underscoring the transformative power of faith and hope.

During the program, Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang and Madam Krishna Rai were honoured by the organising committee. Additionally, the Guest Speaker, Aacharya Vikas Massey, along with Pastor Joseph Tamang and Rev. Dilip Chettri, received recognition.

The celebration included cultural performances that showcased the region's rich traditions, culminating in a special musical performance by the esteemed singer Mr Karna Das, which enthralled the audience.

Ustad Zakir Hussain (9 March 1951 - 15 December 2024) was an famous Indian tabla maestro, composer, percussionist, music producer and film actor. He is the eldest son of a legendary tabla player Ustad Alla Rakha. He is widely considered as one of the greatest tabla players of all time.

A Padma Vibhushan awardee and a very wonderful human being. Whenever we hear sound of the tabla, an image comes to our mind.... a very calm and beautiful person with curly hair....

State Level Chasok Tongnam 2024: Celebration of Culture and Heritage

Pakyong, December 14 (IPR):
Chief Minister Mr Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, accompanied by Madam Krishna Rai, attended the State Level Chasok Tongnam 2024 celebration, organised by the Chasok Tongnam celebration committee at Saramsa Garden, Ranipool, today.

The event was graced by the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Sikkim Legislative Assembly; Cabinet Ministers; MP Lok Sabha; MLAs; Advisors; Zilla Adhyakshas and Upadhyakshas, Mr Yougan Tamang, Press Secretary to HCM; heads of departments; dignitaries from various line departments; along with members of the Limboo committee, police personnel, and the general public.

In his address to the gathering, the Chief Minister conveyed his greetings on the occasion, emphasising the importance of the festival and explaining that the ritual is performed to present the new harvest to Goddess Yuma Sammang, along with other deities and ancestors, in gratitude for a bountiful harvest. He highlighted the profound significance of this festival within the Limboo community and urged all attendees to safeguard and preserve their folk traditions, language, and attire, thereby passing their invaluable heritage to future generations.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister proposed an initiative aimed at preserving the rich culture and heritage of the community through the documentation of oral histories and the creation of written works that encapsulate the insights and philosophies of esteemed Limboo intellectuals, ensuring that the community's narrative is archived and sustained for posterity. He also referenced the Yuma Manghim located in Darap and detailed plans to establish similar Manghims in various locations across the state, thereby underscoring the importance of safeguarding the cultural and spiritual significance of the Limboo community through diverse initiatives. Additionally, he affirmed that festivals of every community would be observed as state-level events in order to recognise and honour the rich tapestry of cultural traditions while providing necessary support to uplift the community.

At the commencement of the event, the Chief Minister performed puja offerings at the Manghim to invoke blessings and to commence the celebration with positive intentions, followed by a visit to the museum to examine the collectables and artefacts from the historical period.

Additionally, Dr Indrahang S***a, MP Lok Sabha, extended his gratitude to the attendees and commended the state government for their unwavering support in the Chasok Tongnam celebration. He appreciated the declaration of Chasok Tongnam, as a gazetted holiday, underlining its positive impact in fostering community unity.

Furthermore, Mr Bal Muringla, Associate Professor, Sikkim University, provided brief information on the Chasok Tongnam festival, wherein the commemoration of the offering for the first harvest to the Limbu ancestral goddess, Yuma Sammang, along with other deities, takes place. This sacred occasion serves as a prayer for the welfare of humanity, prosperity, abundant harvests, and happiness.

He further underscored that in Yakthungpan (Limboo language), 'cha' translates to grain, while 'sok' means to offer, highlighting the festival's deep cultural significance and its role in fostering community values and agricultural gratitude, which also entails asking for forgiveness from nature for destroying non-human beings during the process of agriculture.

The key feature of the day was the release of the 53rd and 54th editions of the Limboo news bulletin ‘INGSA.’ Various cultural performances were also showcased from various regions, including Lamdhan Samlo (Welcome Song), Tumyehang Samlo, Tam-okkay Samlo and Y***k Samlo.

State-level Constitution Day Celebration at Chintan Bhawan

Gangtok, November 26 (IPR): The State-level celebration of the 75th Constitution Day, observed annually to commemorate the of the Constitution of India, was held today at Chintan Bhawan as part of the Samvidhan Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The programme, organised by the Government of Sikkim, was attended by Mr Raju Basnet, Minister of Education, Sports and Youth Affairs, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Departments as the chief guest.

He was accompanied by Mr Kunga Nima Lepcha, Advisor to the Chief Minister, Mr R Telang, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, and MLAs, Mr Tenzing Norbu Lamtha and Mr Sonam Tshering Venchungpa, on the dais.

As part of the celebratory event, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr Raju Basnet, led the attendees in reading out the Preamble to the Constitution of India.

While extending his Constitution Day greetings to everyone, Minister Mr Raju Basnet, in his address, highlighted the enduring importance of the Indian Constitution and stressed its role as the foundation of the world's largest democracy.

He spoke about the Preamble as a guiding light that reflects our collective aspirations for justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity enshrined in the Constitution.

Special emphasis was laid on Article 371F, unique to Sikkim, which safeguards the state’s distinct identity and cultural heritage. He reaffirmed the State Government's commitment to upholding the sanctity of this provision while ensuring inclusive development and constitutional integrity.

He further urged everyone to uphold the constitutional principles in their personal and professional lives. Observing Constitution Day, he said, is a reminder of our duties and an opportunity to connect with the spirit of democracy and national unity.

An engaging talk on "Freedom of Speech and Expression in the Digital Age" was presented by Dr Tshewang Dorjee Lama, Principal, Sikkim Government Law College, wherein he laid out the legal provisions and their implications in the contemporary digital landscape.

Dr Achina Kundu, Vice Chancellor, Sikkim National Law University, delivered an insightful talk on "Evolution and Essence of the Constitution", tracing its historical development and underlining its role as a living document guiding India's democratic journey.

During the course of the event, the Information and Public Relations (IPR) Department also showcased a short film on the fundamental duties and the Constitution.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms Annapurna Alley, Secretary IPR Department.

Earlier, Mr Suraj Chettri, Secretary Law Department delivered the welcome address.

Also present on the occasion were District Collector Gangtok, Upa-Adhakshyas, Advisors, Chairpersons, former MLAs, Principal Secretaries, heads of various departments, police personnel, and other officials and dignitaries.

CM PREM SINGH TAMANG MEETS GOVERNOR OP MATHUR IN NEW DELHI

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang met Governor of Sikkim, OP Mathur, at Old Sikkim House in New Delhi .
