This incident fits a wider pattern of Russia exploiting generative AI in influence campaigns. Networks like Storm-1516 use AI to craft fake personas, deepfake visuals, and synthetic narratives that spread false claims about Western politics, Ukraine, and EU unity across social media. These operations leverage high-volume, AI-produced material to make propaganda appear native and credible, widening reach and bypassing moderation.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that due to Russia's massive strikes on civilian infrastructure, Ukraine is on the verge of a humanitarian energy crisis. According to him, Russia is not showing any willingness to cease fire, but on the contrary, is intensifying attacks that bear the hallmarks of war crimes.
