Maybe comfort is used as a tool to keep us from needing God…
When life is good why would you need Him? Why would you need to think about what comes after this? I think that’s a way the enemy has deceived so many.
You can spend your whole life believing you have everything you need, without ever realising you’re missing the most important thing.
That’s why this scene is so powerful.
The door is wide open. You could walk out at any moment. But why would you look for a way out of a prison you don’t even realise you’re in? Sin feels like freedom until you try to stop.
And eventually that door shuts.
Maybe hardship is used to bring us closer to God, to make us less dependant on ourselves and more on Him.
Maybe it’s not just a maybe but that suffering produces something in us that wouldn’t be otherwise. That’s truth.
I’d rather face life’s difficulties and uncertainties with the One who holds it all.
By God’s standard we all have fallen short and our sin deserves punishment BUT Jesus took our place, living a perfect life, fully man, fully God He wanted a relationship with His creation; through our rebellion and made a way for us to do that. We don’t deserve it but by His grace saved us not by the good things we do but out of His love for us.
All we need to do is accept Him, surrender our need for earthly comfort, and lean on the one who gives us supernatural comfort and peace beyond what makes sense.
Only Christ can make us good by putting on us His righteousness when we accept Him.
I could have cursed God as I watched my daughter and numerous children suffer from cancer this year… but I know he groves with me over this brokenness and He will make it all new.
We live in a broken world, it was never meant to have children suffer like that but because of sin entering the world there is suffering. It was such a reminder that we all go through hard things but what do you cling to? You can have a source of hope and peace through it all with Jesus.
Maybe living a life of comfort keeps us from thinking about eternity.
What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?
