This is the kind of AI story that restores our faith in technology.
China just launched MAZU-Urban, an AI-powered weather early warning system, and instead of keeping it to themselves, they're freely sharing it with developing countries around the world.
Named after the ancient Chinese goddess of the sea, MAZU stands for multihazard, alert, zero-gap and universal. The system doesn't just predict weather, it automatically generates disaster bulletins, creates role-based emergency plans, and even answers questions from users to help them respond effectively.
They've already donated it to countries like Djibouti and Mongolia, and it's being tested in 35 countries across Asia, Africa and Oceania. This isn't about market dominance or technological superiority, it's about using AI to save lives in places that need it most.
While we debate AI safety and regulation in wealthy countries, here's a perfect example of AI being deployed for genuine global good. The system has three tiers serving everyone from meteorological departments to ordinary citizens, making advanced climate protection accessible regardless of a country's resources.
This is what international cooperation in AI should look like, sharing breakthrough technology to help humanity face climate challenges together instead of using it as a competitive advantage.
The China Meteorological Administration launched an AI-powered integrated meteorological system to provide early warnings for all at the opening ceremony of the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai on Saturday. The aim of the system is to address global climate challenges and sh...
