So every night - from 7 pm to 7 am, 12 hours - Vita at Grove Isle - sees fit to disturb the neighbors, the North Grove Bay area and most of all the sea life. These bright intrusive lights are not only in everyone's living rooms across the bay, but sea life is being harmed.
Artificial light at night is very harmful to sea creatures - all the manatees, dolphins, fish in the bay are being affected.
What this non-stop artificual light does to sealife:
Disruption of natural rhythms: Marine organisms have evolved to rely on the natural cycle of day and night, using light cues for essential behaviors like migration, foraging, and reproduction.
Artificial light at night (ALAN), or light pollution, interferes with these natural patterns.
Impacts on reproduction: For example, corals synchronize their mass spawning events with the lunar cycle, and light pollution can disrupt this crucial timing, reducing reproductive success.
Affects prey and predator interactions: Artificial light can either concentrate prey, making them easier for predators to find, or reduce natural camouflage, impacting the balance of the food web.
Stress and physiological changes: Studies have shown that ALAN can cause stress responses, alter metabolic processes, and change circadian rhythms in marine organisms.
Direct harm to certain species: Sea turtles, in particular, are negatively impacted by ALAN as nesting females avoid brightly lit beaches, and hatchlings are disoriented and drawn away from the ocean, leading to increased mortality.
In essence, artificial light at night can significantly disrupt the delicate balance of marine ecosystems, impacting the behavior, physiology, and survival of various sea creatures.
