It was a great weekend for Freo de Janeiro
I had the honour of DJing the wedding of Alexandra and Ben at the awesome Guildhall North Freo.
Then on Saturday as the MC of the Volleyball WA Awards Night.
Thanks to awesome people like Karyn Murray, Jed McArthur-Bolton and Isabelle Masters for the support 💜
Good times with music and sport!!

A great honour and joy to MC for Perth Redbacks in the NBL1 West.
It was a wonderful atmosphere and awesome to reunite with Ryan Lenegan (their esteemed CEO).
Some great basketball and magic moments with young Kyle having a shot from halfway nearly go in to win a car in the Lynford Motors Half Court Shot Challenge Final.

Thank you IMA-Inspiring Muslims of Australia and Abidah Bachoo for nominating and putting this together. It is embarrassing to share something written about yourself but I really support this initiative underlying it.

Abidah in my eyes, is truly a champion who is achieving great things in her profession and community. "Managing mom life and professional hustle" in her words 😊 This initiative she created is one of them. Thank you Ivy Chen for connecting us.

Representation and positive reflections are something we still long to see in many spheres of life in Australia. If you know anyone you would like to nominate for this initiative, put them forward so we can start seeing, nurturing and sharing more positive stories of the Muslim community in Australia.

👋 Born in Perth/Boorloo and raised in Fremantle/Walyalup to Fijian and Pakistani parents, Abid Imam's life has always been intertwined with sports and culture. Today, he proudly serves as the Community Football Manager at Football West and the Volunteer Manager for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 Perth/Boorloo.

🎓 After completing his studies in Sport Management at Curtin University, Abid embarked on a 16-year journey in sports management, leadership roles spanning football, athletics, and gymnastics. His dedication to community outcomes has left an indelible mark on Western Australia.

🌐 Abid's community involvement extends beyond his professional roles. He hosts the "Freo de Janeiro" podcast, a volunteer passion project that amplifies diverse voices from places like Palestine, Pakistan, Brazil, and beyond. Through this platform, he strives to create a space for important stories and perspectives.

💙Abid played a pivotal role in managing the volunteer program for the FIFA Women's World Cup, leading a diverse team of 400 volunteers. He emphasizes inclusivity and equality in his role at Football West, managing club development to create welcoming environments for women and girls through the Football Australia Club Changer program.

🤝 But Abid's journey wasn't without challenges. Initially facing rejection in sports, he nearly gave up before landing a role at Little Athletics WA, which opened doors to a professional environment. Volunteering, he believes, makes a significant difference for young people entering any industry.

Abid's leadership roles extend to organizations like the SportWest True Sport Advisory Group and Gymnastics WA Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group. A graduate of the Leadership WA's Rising Leadership Program, his leadership philosophy revolves around continuous learning and the importance of self-investment.

🌟 Abid's successful delivery of the volunteer program for the FIFA Women’s World Cup and his contribution to the Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament have garnered him recognition. Currently, a finalist for the 2023 WA Sport Awards, he continues to strive for excellence.

I've always loved and been fascinated by Brasil. The futebol, music, food, people, beaches, the language and Amazon jungle 🌴
I went in 2014 for the FIFA World Cup and was overjoyed that I got to have an experience that justified my fascination. I returned for the Rio 2016 Olympics and that was another level because I could speak the language and pretend to be a local 😛
Lifelong family friends were made like Pri and Ed who let me live in their house without having met me before.
Here in Boorloo, learning Brazilian Portuguese has been a lot of fun, meeting friendly people, playing futebol and going to great events here in the community. 10 years ago, the first Brazilian brother I made was Lucas Storare Jacob
He's now one of the awesome singers in this cool band Pagode dos Amigos they play consistent sold out shows here.
This Saturday for Carnaval, in Walyalup at the fine surrounds of Port Beach Brewery epic garden, DJ Freo de Janeiro has been invited to heat up what will be an already hott dance floor from 4-6pm for Pagode dos Amigos then

It's a big honour and I can't wait to play some Carnaval bumpers for the community and express that BrAustralian love🦘🇧🇷

With my mum being from the Fiji Islands, Rugby 7's is a big deal. A national obsession which represents the beautiful islands on the global stage. Fiji has produced some of the finest players in history.
World Rugby is very globalised thanks to 7's with some great playing locations around the world.
I loved being in Rio 2016 to see the boys win the first Men's Rugby Olympic Gold. The Las Vegas 7's was also a cool XP. Australia is very strong in the Women's and Men's.

I love the Rugby 7's so much that I did a university assignment on it as a teenager writing about how our city should host it one day. I sent it to the Lord Mayor. She replied which was nice of her :) Now, after patiently waiting, Boorloo is hosting the Rugby 7's for the first time this weekend.

Thanks to my dear friend Kirby, DJ Freo de Janeiro will be performing on all three days.

Had the honour of bringing the MC vibes to Perth Glory's win over Adelaide United in the A-Leagues Women over the weekend.
Our team is top of the table, 4 wins from 4 and playing great football with more impressive players coming through from WA.
Also a nice interview post-game for the fans with Jessika Cowart (Philippines World Cup player).
There's a big match this Saturday night 7pm against Melbourne Victory at Macedonia Park, come along, support the team and wonderful growing movement!

A big day tomorrow/Saturday!

2-5pm - DJing at Rosemount Hotel's Rosemount Hotel X RTRFM Social Saturdays October

7pm - MCing Perth Glory vs Western United A-Leagues Women's season opener.
A big one at Macedonia Park. It will be a great night out for football fans new and existing. A great chance to support the foundation of football after the successful FIFA Women's World Cup.

The Freo de Janeiro Podcast will celebrate it's 5 year anniversary by being part of a very special art exhibition in Walyalup/Freo and you're invited!

Family: This is Family will be a two week-long exhibition project at Moores Building Contemporary Art Space (Fremantle Arts Centre) from 30th June - 16th July.

Freo de Janeiro Podcast will be one of the exhibits with a very unique interactive audio installation featuring some highlights of the show which align with the theme of LOVE in Dreams, Freedom, Healing and Identity.

I was very honoured recently to be joined on the Freo de Janeiro Podcast by Dominique Mecoy, CEO of Leadership WA.
