Zambian PEN Center is a writers’ organization
registered in Zambia in February, 2004. It is an affiliate
of the National Arts Council of Zambia

It is an affiliate of the National Arts Council of Zambia, the government body that regulates the arts. The abbreviation PEN stands for Poets/Playwrights, Essayists and Novelists,
though other genre writers and literary enthusiasts are
still welcome to become members. Zambian PEN Center was elected to the family of PEN International in 2003 in Mexico. Although autonomous, the Center is guided by

the Charter of PEN International, which is a
supreme document. The Center is one of 147 Centers in the world that make the entire PEN International family
from 104 countries.
