Home is where the heart is...

And this is true for Karen Hendriks Children's Author as she wrote this story in honour of her Mum and her journey of being forced from her home and fleeing to Australia with a special heart sewn into her dress.

A tale of resilience, belonging, new beginnings for all ages.

This week is Refugee Week.

When Dan and Marisol approached me to publish their story, I was intrigued by it. The Boy From The Sea is a true story. It tells the tale of a little boy, who was taken from his family and shipped alone to another country. It speaks of resilience and kindness and belonging.

It's beautifully told and illustrated by the amazing Jennifer Horn - Illustrator/Author

Behind every policy and every system are real people with real stories. For those living with disability or chronic illness, the journey often begins with struggle — but can grow into something much bigger. When someone bravely shares their personal story, they give a voice to countless others, shining a light on barriers and opening doors to change. This is how lived experience becomes not just personal, but powerful.

Art is so much more than just painting or drawing - it's a powerful tool that nurtures creativity and sharpens problem-solving skills in children and teens. When kids engage in artistic activities, they’re not just expressing themselves; they’re learning to think outside the box, adapt to challenges, and find innovative solutions. Whether it’s mixing colours to get the right shade or figuring out how to bring an idea to life, art encourages kids to think outside the box.

Fostering a love for art means giving children the freedom to explore through open-ended challenges, making mistakes, and critical thinking that allows them to discover new perspectives. These experiences not only boost confidence but also help kids develop the creative habits and problem-solving techniques they’ll use throughout their lives.

Let’s champion art as a core part of learning - because when we nurture creativity, we empower the next generation to solve problems, adapt, and thrive in an ever-changing world!

Splash! Written and illustrated by Wellness Teacher Kym Langfield Illustrator gives children the space to learn. In her story, Lucy discovers new paths and perspectives.

Do you have a story to share? To empower, educate, inform?

Whilst the idea of publishing your own book is appealing, most people don’t know where to begin. You struggle to take the message you want to convey to the world in an engaging, empowering book that will captivate the reader, but the process of publishing is overwhelming and for many it becomes one of those projects you’ll start when you 'get around to it.’

There are many reasons why you’d consider publishing a book and there are many ways you could reap some of the massive benefits which come along with being a published author. Not only does publishing a book give you the vehicle to share your story, knowledge and wisdom with others, but you can leverage being a published author to move your success forward.
