Time for one of the biggest Test series in the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle as India host the reigning champions South Africa in a two-match series starting at the historic Eden Gardens Kolkata on Friday (November 14). The second Test will be played in Guwahati where we will see early start breaks being swapped.

This is an all-format series with thrilling ODIs and T20Is coming up after the two riveting red-ball games in Eastern part of India. It has been a busy few months for both teams. Then the Gill-led India to a 2-0 series sweep against West Indies at home. It was his first assignment as captain on Indian soil. Gill also said he wants to make these 4 Test matches at home count after India dropped a three-match series to New Zealand in the last home season that eventually cost them a place in the WTC final.

On the other hand South Africa are coming off a thrilling 1-1 draw in a two-match Test series in Pakistan. They didn't have the services of their inspiring leader Temba Bavuma for that series as the middle-order batter was recovering from a calf injury that he sustained during the white-ball tour of England earlier this year.

The Proteas came back really well to level the series with an excellent performance in Rawalpindi after losing in Lahore. Boosting the WTC holders is the return of Bavuma who will take the leadership baton back from Aiden Markram who led the Proteas in the former's absence against the Shan Masood-led side recently.

Several key players were rested for Pakistan's white-ball series with South Africa aiming to get ready for the India tour with a title to defend. They are all back in the team for this marquee event in the WTC calendar. Prior to the series Bavuma was back in action featuring for South Africa A in a four-day Unofficial Test match against.

India A at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground. It was the second and final game of the series under the captaincy of Marques Ackerman. Although Bavuma bagged a golden duck in the first innings he scored a welcome fifty in the second and contributed to the side's cause in a big run chase of 417 which the visitors achieved.

Without breaking a sweat to level the series. Like South Africa India also see the return of their vice-captain wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant who has been a vital cog in this set-up ever since his debut in 2018. Pant was sidelined for three months due to a right foot fracture he sustained in the Manchester Test against England.

He missed a couple of series including India's tour to Australia for the white-ball assignments. Pant returned action leading India A against the Proteas A in the two four-day games in Bengaluru. The left-handed batter looked at his best with his trademark stroke play and also battled a couple of injury scares on his way to a sizzling.

Half-century in the second innings of the second First-Class fixture. It will be a black-soiled surface at Eden Gardens. There is a bit of grass as well that would stop the pitch from opening up.
