Washington, DC’s DES DEMONAS have been hailed as a favorite of Henry Rollins (KCRW FM/Black Flag), Marc Riley (BBC6 Music/The Fall), and Iggy Pop (BBC6 Music/The Stooges) since the release of their debut LP on In The Red Records.

The group is made up of some familiar names from the DC punk, garage, and indie scenes. A Kenyan punk-poet-politique Jacky “Cougar” Abok (Foul Swoops, Thee Lolitas) is on vocals & percussion, Mark Cisneros (Hammered Hulls, Kid Congo and the Pink Monkey Birds, The Make-Up) is on guitar, Paul Vivari (Benjy Ferree, DJ Soul Call Paul) is on Farfisa organ and bass machine, and Matt Gatwood (Two Inch Astronaut) is on drums.
Des Demonas’ music is a melding of disparate sounds and influences, hitting with a driving pulse and fiery intent.

“The sonic fuel of the band is a blend of post punk, punk, funk, blues, psych rock, Afro beat, even bubble gum but the noise you hear is pure Des Demonas.”
-Kim Salmon / The Scientists
“Dig the Des Demonas. Play it loud. Twist your wig.”
-Kid Congo Powers

A few years ago we started a little business called Nottingham Record Co-op where we buy in records for folks at super cheap prices. Here is how it works!

HOW DO I SEE WHAT IS AVAILABLE TO ORDER?
Each week we compile 3 lists containing:
1) Next week’s new releases
2) New pre-orders and announcements
3) Restocks and offers
You can receive the lists by joining our private Facebook Group or signing up to our email list. https://linktr.ee/nottinghamrecordcoop

HOW DO I ORDER AND PAY?
Once you are a member of our group simply comment on our posts to tell us what you want, and we’ll order it for you. We take payment via paypal or bank transfer. On your first order we ask you to pay up front and send you the payment details. After that we’ll ask you for money when records are on their way to us. We let you know when records are ready for collection.

CAN YOU FIND ME A RECORD THAT IS ALREADY OUT?
Just tell us what you are after and we’ll check if we can get it for you!

WHERE DO I COLLECT MY RECORDS FROM?
You can either collect from our house in Sherwood, or from fac1986 on St James St in the city centre. Just tell us which location you prefer when you put your first order in. If you collect from Sherwood, you’ll need to tell us in advance which day you want to collect so we can leave your records out for collection. If you choose Fac1986, we’ll drop your records behind the counter, let you know when they are there, and you can then pop in and collect whenever they are open. Fac1986 stock lots of great secondhand records so have a browse and spend some ££ while you are there!

DO YOU POST ORDERS?
Yes if you order regularly!

WHAT ARE YOUR PRICES?
We like to keep things as cheap as possible. Here are some example prices!

Aesop Rock 'Black Hole Superette' 2LP (Rhymesayers) £25.5
Alan Sparhawk ‘With Trampled by Turtles’ LP (Sub Pop) £20
The Beta Band ‘The Three EPs’ 2LP (Because) £29

THE MESSTHETICS & JAMES BRANDON LEWIS
Where to start; an incendiary and forward looking band with a line up of incredible and legendary musicians.
Formed in 2018, Joe Lally and Brendan Canty (of Fugazi) joined forces with experimental / jazz guitarist Anthony Pirog. They released two full length LPs via Dischord in 2018 & 19.
After a couple of live performances with James Brandon Lewis on saxophone they decided to record something together and released their most recent LP on ¡Impulse!
Joe and Brendan for the most part bring a steady rhythmic bedrock for Anthony's rich guitar approach drawing freely on jazz, punk and everything in between. James brings another dimension and more interplay to it all. Although this line up is comparatively new it's foundations are on long-standing musical relationships. James and Anthony met around a decade ago at a session led by free-jazz drummer William Ho**er and instantly hit it off, going on to work together extensively in Lewis’ own groups. A pairing which by their own admission worked from the very start. Joe and Brendan have played together since the late 80's in Fugazi and in my opinion, one of the greatest rhythm sections of all time. Not everyday you get to see something this solid, intuitive and free.
They toured the UK in 2019 (seems like a maximum of 3 years ago to me - COVID for you) and were fantastic. It's great they've decided to come back.

HOLODRUM
Strong game synth-pop disco post punk supergroup from Leeds / Sowerby Bridge who released their debut album on Gr**go. Much like the headliners, it's folk who have been involved in so many solid projects - Cowtown, Hookworms, James Holden plus loads more. 1st time in Notts!

NEW RELEASE! The long gestated "Autumn Trash" EP by Jutland Songs. Available to pre-order on very limited cassette and digital over at https://jutlandsongs.bandcamp.com/album/autumn-trash

A good day to do it as it is Bandcamp Friday.

In spirit, Autumn Trash is a 10” EP, on the shelf vying for attention alongside similar sized records by Archers Of Loaf and The Grifters, Superchunk and The Breeders, Magic Dirt and Rocket From The Crypt. A spiritual cousin of indie rock’s heyday, on a straitened 21st century budget, serving the same purpose, if not the same sound, as Head To Toe or Vs The Greatest Of All Time: a distillation of a moment and a promise of more to come.

We're putting on The Messthetics & James Brandon Lewis at The Boat Club in Nottingham on 13th Feb 2025! Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday. https://linktr.ee/nottinghamrecordcoop

The Messthetics of course feature Brendan Canty and Joe Lally, otherwise known as Fugazi's rhythm section, one of the greatest of all time.

James Brandon Lewis has been lauded by jazz legend Sonny Rollins, who said: "When I listen to you, I listen to Buddha, I listen to Confucius... I listen to the deeper meaning of life", and Marc Ribot, who describes Lewis as a keeper of John Coltrane's legacy: "James Brandon Lewis' solos are like a jumbo jet - you need to give them plenty of runway space to take off and land".

This will be smoking!

Got a couple of excellent gigs coming up this week in Nottingham!

On Friday SAVAK (USA) + Every Face Becomes A Skull + Clambake at The Carousel Not often we have a new venue to try out so this will be exciting! It will be marvellous to see our good friends Savak back in Nottingham.

On Sunday Redd Kross + Dale Crover (Melvins / Nirvana) at The Boat Club. Redd Kross played the first gig I ever went to almost 30 years ago. Maybe my dad will take me to this one too! I really love Redd Kross, they have been going for 45 years, since the McDonald brothers were 15 and 11! Not many bands can say they they used to hang out with Black Flag but love The Osmonds. I'm hoping for a supreme version of Crazy Horses.

Ticket links for all gigs are at https://linktr.ee/nottinghamrecordcoop
If anyone wants to pick up tickets without paying a booking fee then contact me direct.

SAVAK (USA)
SAVAK operate as a loose collective of players focused around the core duo of Michael Jaworski (The Cops, Virgin Islands) and Sohrab Habibion (Obits, Edsel) along with drummer Matt Schulz (Holy F**k, Enon). The touring band has featured members of killer bands such as Girls Against Boys, Bellini, The Make Up, Nation Of Ulysses, New Radiant Storm King, Silver Jews and several million more.
SAVAK takes the edge and clang of Habibion's former band Obits and adds some light and shade, recalling everything from the DC punk rock it's members grew up with to Stiff Records new wave and danceable Nuggets garage rock. We're very happy to have them back in Nottingham after their previous tour here was cancelled due to lockdown.
“a potent and pointed agitpop racket which manages to balance the dark and moody with the catchy as f**k.” - VICE

EVERY FACE BECOMES A SKULL
Notts punk rockers EFBAS play "urgent, spiky punk rock that takes the Revolution Summer pattern and loads it full of jitters, neuroses and modern-day anxieties." FFO Torches To Rome, Jawbreaker, 12 Hour Turn and Gray Matter circa ‘Take It Back’
https://efbas.bandcamp.com/

CLAMBAKE
Rumoured to be brothers, Clambake offer Stewed down rock'n'roll at its most primitive, featuring 4 stringed guitar, minimal drum kit and shouting. Subject matter included getting divorced, boozing, wanting to be the next James Bond, crashing your car and wanting to make the world a better place. During their time together Clambake sonically changed from their earlier 50's inspirations to a two man Motorhead, or the Ramones with a slide guitar.
