CINDERELLA’S MARZIPAN DELIGHT

One day, while I was brushing the dust settled over my books kept in my closet, I chanced to see a very old tattered book on fairy tales. This was few years back, when my grand-daughter was a little baby. I thought to read out the Cinderella story to her. She was extremely excited and asked me if she could get that Cinderella slipper. As I could not deny her, I pondered as to how could I satiate my little princess’s curiosity? Then one day there were few guests who had to come over to our place for dinner. I started making marzipans, which I myself am fond of, to serve as after dinner dessert. And then it struck me as to why can’t I make the Cinderella slipper with this marzipan mix of almonds and sugar? I could just not wait to see a smile on my little princess’s face.
So my young mommies, try making these wonderful Marzipan Cinderella slippers and I am sure your little buds will relish the surprise. Remember you are even responsible for their good nourishment too. Along with this, do read out the story of Cinderella to take them in a world full of fantasy.

"POLLY PUT THE KETTLE ON" the well-known nursery rhyme was published in 1797. The origin was based on the author having five children - two boys and three girls. There were constant arguments as the boys wanted to play soldiers and the girls wanted to play house! When the girls wanted to play without their brothers they would pretend to start a game of tea party "Polly put the kettle on" and the daughter, called Polly, would put the toy kettle on! As soon as the brothers left Sukey (or Susan) would take it off again! Their father was so amused by this ploy that he set it to words and added the music which were subsequently published.
This rhyme sounded so interesting to me that I thought of creating a wonderful recipe out of it – ‘POLLY’S ICED TONIC TEA’. Here the tea in the kettle has been prepared like a ‘kahwa’ – a traditional Kashmiri drink, flavoured with saffron and cinnamon. There are some nuts in it too!! I am sure our Pollys would love playing house while making this aromatic tea.
It's the perfect time to let budding cooks loose in the kitchen.

All probably know the basic story of ‘Hansel and Gretel’: the wicked stepmother, an incredible candy house, an evil witch, and lastly a happy ending.
This familiar tale was recorded by the Brothers Grimm in 1812. It may also date back to the Great Famine of the early 14th century, when many poor families gave in to desperate strategies for survival. Hansel & Gretel is a very old and famous German tale.
The idea of an entire house made of gingerbread, chocolate wafer biscuits chocolate and white icing, crushed peanuts and candy, stayed with me as a child, when I first heard the story.
You will devour this tempting cake ever, ever and ever. I am sure you may be tempted to overindulge, given the amazing combination of candies, wafers and cake.
Try it with breakfast, or as an accompaniment to after-dinner hours.
So, my charming young cooks, why to wait? Pick a copy and make the easiest ‘Hansel & Gretel’ cake.

While using the oven, take help from your Mom till you are more experienced.

Do not work alone in the kitchen and ask for assistance from any older person at home.

Make sure you clean up the mess created during cooking.

SUPER SUNDAY COOKING AT ITALIANO GURGAON: A Sunday Well utilized , learning the art of Cooking, for the Young Chefs and their Parents on Tips of Healthy Cooking . The Author Kookie Hoon of " Fairy Tales And Nursery Rhymes Kook Book" held the audience spellbound with her amazing and unique cooking skills for the youngster based on age old Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes. They Learnt,They Shouted They Played and Ate some delicious tit bits straight from the Kook Book and finally got their books autoigraphed. The Event was orgainsed by Delhi Book Club ( Aakansha ) in association with Italiano, Gurgaon.
