The Hypothetical Africa Village models life and society in contemporary Africa. It is about living in the African context... be it in the small remote village in the African forest, desert, the teeming metropolis of an African capital city, as an immigrant in a foreign land or a destitute refugee under detention somewhere in the west. It is about issues African: African hopes and dreams, African p
olitics and African politicians, African peoples and societies, education, health, transportation, industry, technology, the law and the judiciary, the arts and entertainment. It is about the dancing to intoxicating rhythms in the streets and the food stalls selling delicious street food and African cuisine in general. It will also be about sports - where the athletic run and jump, the strong push and box and the nimble weave and dribble balls in the streets and many more. Here too those Africans and friends of Africa who excel in their fields will be lauded and decorated. Those that fall foul of village laws, norms, customs, codes and conventions will be castigated and if possible banished from the village for ever. As typical in the African village the following, amongst many other village issues and problems, will be discussed under the meeting tree:
* The paucity of progressive ideas from our leaders
* The grinding poverty that enslaves many in the African village
* Inequitable allocation of our resources and distribution of our collective wealth
* The fragile and ineffective health infrastructures and systems
* The savagery of abysmal, naked, senseless, shameless and rampaging corruption
* Lack of rule of law, and
* The curse of colonial histories
This page is actually a yearning for the transformation of the African continent. It imagines, amongst many others, Africa with:
* Good, selfless, competent and visionary African leaders
* Efficient bureaucracies
* Adherence to the rule of law and respect for the principles of human rights
* Proper governance and accountability
* Basic infrastructure for the modern society, and
* Citizens speaking up and standing up for themselves
In the Hypothetical African village the land will embody the past, present and future, the culture and hopes of African peoples.
