November 2023 was the hottest November in NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s temperature record, GISTEMP. That makes this fall (Sept-Nov) the hottest on record. In fact, the last six months have all broken records, continuing the long-term warming trend caused by human activities.

The global mean temperature anomaly for November 2023 was 1.44°C above the 1951-1980 November average. https://go.nasa.gov/2PakncL

Earth’s oceans have had record warm sea surface temperatures for four months 🌡️

In March and April 2023, average sea surface temperatures surpassed the highest levels seen in NOAA’s record of sea surface temperatures, OISST. Months later, they remain at record levels. In July, global sea surface temperatures were 0.99°C (1.78°F) above average, according to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Decades of warming due to human-caused climate change and a developing El Niño have pushed global ocean temperatures to record levels in 2023, NASA scientists say.

This map shows sea surface temperature anomalies on August 21, 2023, when many areas were more than 3°C (5.4°F) warmer than normal. The data are from the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory MUR SST project, which includes measurements from multiple NASA, NOAA, and international satellites as well as ship and buoy observations. It shows temperature anomalies – the difference between the temperature on August 21, 2023 and the 2003-2014 average for that day – rather than absolute temperature. https://go.nasa.gov/3EclOC3 🌊
