Advocate Nirmal K. Kotwal Recuses Himself from Representing Mehraj Malik

Jammu, J&K — Senior Advocate Nirmal K. Kotwal has announced his decision to withdraw from representing MLA Mehraj Malik in a case concerning the Public Safety Act (PSA). The announcement was made in a press release dated September 18, 2025.

According to the release, Advocate Kotwal became aware of several videos circulating on social media in which Mehraj Malik allegedly stated that Jammu and Kashmir is not a part of India. The videos also reportedly show Malik praising militant Burhan Wani and terrorist Masood Azhar.

Kotwal stated in the release that these statements were not brought to his attention by the legal team of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) when he was initially briefed on the case.

Advocate Kotwal condemned the alleged statements, calling them "extremely insensitive, irresponsible, and detrimental to the cause of national security, sovereignty, and integrity of India." He emphasized his duty as an officer of the court and a citizen of India to prioritize the nation's interests.

"In light of the same, and in keeping with my conscience, professional ethics, and commitment to national integrity, I hereby recuse myself from representing Mr. Mehraj Malik in the matter concerning the PSA proceedings," the press release states.

Kotwal concluded by saying that the "unity and sovereignty of India are non-negotiable, and any act or statement undermining them cannot be condoned under any circumstances."

Dr. Sandeep Mawa Announces Launch of New Political Party – United People’s Party

Jammu, Sept 17: Renowned social activist and community leader Dr. Sandeep Mawa has announced the formation of his own political outfit named United People’s Party (UPP).

In a social media post earlier today, Dr. Mawa stated that though he always considered politics a "dirty game," the ongoing suffering of people compelled him to take this step. “Now I see my people and me suffering… so I am announcing the mega launch of my own political party on 2nd October 2025,” his post read.

The announcement was accompanied by the party’s logo — a raised fist in white against a red background, symbolizing unity, strength, and people’s power.

Dr. Mawa, who has been vocal on various social and political issues in Jammu & Kashmir, said the United People’s Party will work with the vision of giving a new direction to politics and addressing the concerns of the common masses.

The formal launch of the United People’s Party (UPP) is scheduled for October 2, 2025, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, a date symbolic of truth, justice, and people’s empowerment.

With this move, political circles in Jammu & Kashmir are abuzz, speculating how the entry of Dr. Mawa’s party may impact the region’s already complex political landscape.
